So many of you have been asking about Stampin' Up!s new Masking Paper that I had to show you how this new product will help you take your card making to a new level.
This unique paper can be used to create stencils to help you build layered scenes. To create a stencil, stamp a design on the masking paper and cut it out with scissors, dies, or punches (create as many stencils as you need).
To create a mask, stamp a design on cardstock and once it’s dry, cover with the Masking Paper. Stamp whatever image you want around the Masking Paper without worrying about the images overlapping one another. Once your scene is complete, remove the Masking Paper to find crisp, clean designs. You can also use the Masking Paper to protect your stamped images as you add color with Blending Brushes around the image.
Or: use the paper for color blocking to create spaces where you intentionally want color or don’t want color. Discover new coloring techniques and possibilities with Masking Paper, as illustrated in today's card.
Today's color blocking card idea also uses the Best Butterflies bundle:
Send good vibes on the wings of butterflies using the Best Butterflies bundle. These playful images were drawn by hand to give them a fun, slightly imperfect look, just right for your handmade cards. Mix and match images in your favorite colors to create a custom kaleidoscope of butterflies. The everyday sentiments in fun fonts work for all occasions, so you can use this stamp set all year long.
Here's just one fun idea to try:
Supplies:
Stamp Sets – Best Butterflies (159114)
Card Stock – Basic White (159276); Soft Seafoam (100867); So Saffron (105118); Pool Party (122924)
Stamp Pads – Soft Sea Foam (147102); Pool Party (147107); So Saffron (147109)
Misc. – Stampin’ Dimensionals (104430); Bone Folder (102300); Deckled Rectangles Dies (159173); Build A Butterfly Dies (159119); Multipurpose Liquid Glue (110755); Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine (149653); Paper Snips (103579), Masking Paper (155480); Paper Trimmer (152392); Blending Brushes (153611); Heart Pearls (159190)
Measurements:
Soft Sea Foam: 4 ¼” x 11”, scrap for butterflies
So Saffron: 3 9/16” x 4 7/8”, scrap for butterflies
Basic White: 2 pieces 4” x 5 ¼”, scrap for sentiment
Masking Paper: 4” x 5 ¼”
Instructions:
Fold the card base in half and use bone folder to flatten the fold. Set aside.
Die cut the 3rd largest deckle rectangle from the center of the masking paper. Save the inner rectangle for a future use. Peel the backing off the masking paper and adhere to one of the 4” x 5 ¼” pieces of Basic White. Lightly press the deckled edge to the card stock. This piece will be trimmed down later. Use blending brushes to add color to this piece: Soft Sea Form at the bottom, So Saffron in the middle, and Pool Party at the top.
Carefully & slowly peel the masking paper off the Basic White card stock. Use paper trimmer to trim this piece to 3 3/8” x 4 11/16” (basically, leave an even border of white around the edge). Adhere this piece to the So Saffron card stock. Adhere this piece to the card front.
Die cut the 3rd smallest deckle rectangle from a scrap of Basic White card stock. Use scotch tape or washi tape to mask sections of the sentiment stamp to create the image shown in the sample using Pool Party ink.
Adhere to the center of the card front using dimensionals.
Die cut 2 butterflies from scraps of So Saffron and Pool Party card stock. Die cut the same shapes from different colored scraps and use scissors to trim the butterfly center and antenna pieces. Adhere to butterflies and adhere butterflies to the card front.
Add Heart Pearls to the butterflies and card front as shown on the card front.
Stamp remaining piece of Basic White card stock as desired and adhere to the inside of the card.
I will share another Masking Paper idea with you soon - so check back often!
This is such a fun card map challenge for the week:
And the perfect way to use up those beautiful paper scraps and retired products like I am doing to do today.
To help me with my card design I looked through my paper scrap box and spotted a full sheet of the Symbols of Fortune designer paper:
To coordinate I used my Crane of Fortune bundle. If you love this bundle as much as I do, check out more project ideas, here and here. And check out my Crane of Fortune Class of the Month here!
And of course I also used my Layering Circles dies. Here's what I created:
And two more photos, vertical, from different angles.
One:
And two:
And now it's your turn - try this week's card map challenge and see what left-over paper you can use on your card. My motto is 'out with the old and in with the new'. And speaking of new - the next new Mini Catalog is coming soon so let's use up lots of supplies so we can buy more!

When my son was little I loved sewing his clothes. It was so fun going to fabric stores to pick out playful fabric patterns for him. As he grew older, my sewing passion took a turn to quilting. One of my favorite quilting patterns was the '9 patch'. It was easy to create and fun to sew all the different 9 patch possibilities.
The other day a Stampin' Up! demonstrator shared a card that was created using left over bits of designer series paper. It was a 9 patch card technique! You have got to give this technique a try. It looks complicated but it's not.
I do recommend that you use a liquid glue like our Multipurpose Liquid Glue to help arrange pieces.
The Hues of Happiness designer series paper is the star of this card!
Although you can use any phrase across the front of the card, I decided to use the 'Sending' dies from the Sending Smiles bundle:
Send sunshine to brighten someone’s day, comfort and strength, a note of thanks, or birthday wishes. Whatever the occasion, you can create beautiful cards with heartfelt thoughts that will bring a smile to whoever receives it! This set includes nine versatile sentiments so you can tailor today's idea for any occasion that you have coming up.
Now when you see my card you may think - uh huh, there is no way I can make this card. But yes you can! Just watch my video below to see how to create the pieces using your Paper Trimmer (so helpful!) and Multipurpose Liquid Glue (essential). Watch my video tutorial below and.....
then prepare to wow your friends and family!

I don't think I have to do much more convincing that the Sending Smiles bundle is a fantastic value!
It is my go-to set for almost all the cards I have been creating lately. So, no big surprise that when I saw this week's card map challenge...
that I decided to use this bundle once again. It's perfect for more than one of the rows/columns too!
Why do I love Sending Smiles so much? It is the perfect set to:
brighten someone’s day
offer comfort and strength
send a note of thanks
wish someone beautiful birthday wishes.
Whatever the occasion, you can create beautiful cards with heartfelt thoughts that will bring a smile to whoever receives it! This set includes nine versatile sentiments and thirteen images that arrange to create a wide variety of floral designs. Mix and match to make simple or complex cards, backgrounds, borders, or centerpieces.
Can you figure out which row/column I selected for this week's card?
My challenge project was soooo easy to create and there is beauty in its simplicity. Tip: I used an embossing folder for the card front base - just to add a detailed touch.
And now it's your turn. Try our card map challenge for the week and what you can create. If you want to share your final project or to see what the other design crew members created this week too, click here.
A couple of weeks ago a group of Stampin' Up! demonstrators met up for a day of crafting fun. We swapped cards and 3D projects, we saw table displays of new catalog project ideas and we made three amazing projects. Want to see some photos of this fun day? Click here to checkout that blog post.
Want to know the best part of that special day? The new friends that I made that day and will stay in contact with for a long time.
In today's video I want you show you one of these projects we made that day - a fun fold card idea using the Sending Smiles bundle. It's super easy but doesn't look that way.

I love slimline cards - they are fun to make and even more fun to receive.

This week's Paper Craft Crew challenge is the perfect way to use up some of those paper scraps that I know you have lying around:
And it's kind of funny but I struggled with the angle and the shape of the scraps on this image. For a while. Then I let it go and decided not to worry about the small details, to have some fun and share an idea that is adapted from this map.
At a team meeting event that I attended last weekend (see yesterday's blog post for the juicy details), I WON a prize. The table was filled with product options and I chose the 2022-23 In Color Designer Series Paper pack. An unusual choice for me but I decided on this because in all the years that Stampin' Up! has offered these packs I have never bought one. Free is good.
The smaller sheets are ideal for handmade cards, mini scrapbook albums, and for use as colorful accents—cut them with our dies and punches for quick and easy embellishments!
I thought it would be fun to sample each of these new colors on my card:
Sweet Sorbet
Parakeet Party
Tahitian Tide
Starry Sky
Orchid Opulence
***Did you know there is an In Color promotion for May only? Have a peek here.
I also used the new Sending Smiles bunde to add an In Color embellishment to each row on my card.
Here's my card:
If you love paper scrap cards as much as I do, here's another project idea to try.
And now it's your turn: try our challenge for the week and see what you can create using this map. It's a great way to use up your scraps! If you want to see what the other design crew members created for this challenge, link over here.

Hello fellow crafters! Mother's Day is just around the corner so today I have another Sending Smiles Mother's Day card idea, one that is simple to make and beautiful to look at. So let's get started, shall we?
The Sending Smiles bundle will be available for you to order next month (3 May!) when the new Annual Catalog goes live. I chose this bundle because it is a stamp and go set - all images are solid so they don't require time to color in. The phrases make this an all occasion set - a great value for my dollar. As this is a Mother's Day card I am going to use my Timeless Tulips stamp set for the Mother's Day phrase. This set is retiring at the end of April and may already be sold out.
Another product that is retiring soon is the Tasteful Textiles embossing folder which is going to add a subtle touch to one of my card layers.
When you combine these products, along with a fun technique, you can make cards like this! Tip: watch my video below for step by step instructions.
I find that retiring catalog list really hard to deal with, some years more than others. This year I let out a loud moan when I realized that the Daisy punch is retiring - today!
I have used this punch to much over the past couple of years. I love how easy it is to use and all the different layering combinations.
Today I have another card idea to share, a rustic one in nature with lots of texture and visual interest. And no stamp set is needed!
Hello fellow crafters! Mother's Day is just around the corner so today I have a beautiful Mother's Day fun fold card idea, using the brand new Sending Smiles bundle and my Stitched Rectangles dies. I'd love to show you this fun fold idea.

And I also really liked the layered Sending dies - you will see one of these dies on today's card. (you can see the dies on my video below)

There are times when I see a card map challenge and inspiration just comes bubbling to the surface and although I don't know exactly what the final product might be, I know the products I want to use.
I chose the following products to help me with my creation:
Meadow Dies
Tailored Tag punch
Paper strips: Calypso Coral, Sahara Sand
Symbols of Fortune designer series paper
In Color Jewels (2021-23)
Timeworn Type embossing folder
Timeless Tulips (for phrase)
And the layout just fell into place. The paper pattern determined that my card would be portrait instead of landscape and I love the texture of the Soft Succulent square, created by the embossing folder.
The Tailored Tag punch also came to me at the last moment and I really like that it supported the vertical nature of the meadow flower and card base.
I am lovin' this card!
Now it's your turn - try this card map challenge and see what you can create. If you want to see what the other design crew members created for this challenge, click here.
