Here's 1 easy way to add softness to your cards

Are you looking for a way to add easy elegance to your cards? If you answered yes, then I will show you how.

 

Last week I showed you 2 ways to use cardstock vellum to add visual interest on your cards. This week I want to introduce the Vellum Basics specialty designer series paper pack and show you a card idea that is both visually soft and romantic.

I think that using vellum on cards adds instant elegance. The Vellum Basics pack introduces patterns such as stripes and polka dots which suitable for any occasion. Vellum lends a touch of softness to any creation. Whether you use it alone or stamp on it, you’ll love the results.

To add visual interest to my card base I added an embossed layer using the Basics 3D Embossing Folders: 

The three embossing folders in this pack have basic designs that complement any project. Choose from flowers, hobnail-glass dots, and crosshatch designs. Tip: use a whole embossed piece of cardstock as a card background (which I did on today's card) or cut small pieces to use as accents. 

The main accents for my card were created using the Meadow Dies: 

Mix and match the different pieces like I did to get the right look for your creation.

You need to try this easy technique with stunning results

If you are looking to create a unique background that coordinates perfectly with your card elements, then try this Cardstock Vellum technique. Each time you try it your vellum layer will look completely different from the previous time and will add a wow factor to all your cards. Even better: this technique is not time intensive!

For my technique card idea, I used the Earthen Textures dies:

Ink: Starry Sky

Stampin’ Blends:

Paper and cutting dimensions:

        Starry Sky: 8 ½” x 5 1/2”; 4 ½” x 2 ¾” 

        Basic White: 5” x 4 ½”; 2 1/8” x 1”; 4 ½” x 2 ¾” 

        Cardstock Vellum: 3 ¾” x 5”

Instructions:

1. Fold Starry Sky cardstock in half and crease to create card base.
2. Using Multipurpose Liquid Glue, adhere Basic White layer to Starry Sky card base.
3. Using Balmy Blue Stampin’ Blend (light), scribble several lines of color onto Cardstock Vellum.
   
   
   
   
4. Using Tahitian Tide Stampin’ Blend (light), scribble several lines of color onto Cardstock Vellum.
   
   
   
   
   
5. Using Orchid Oasis Stampin’ Blend (light), scribble several lines of color onto Cardstock Vellum.
   
   
   
   
6. Using Starry Sky Stampin’ Blend (light), scribble several lines of color onto Cardstock Vellum.
   
   
   
   
   Note: if your Cardstock Vellum starts to curl, adhere flat using Washi Tape.
   
   
7. Dip Water Painter into Isopropyl Alcohol and add drops randomly onto Cardstock Vellum. As paint runs and ‘bubbles’ add more drops as desired. Let dry.
   
   
   
   
8. Die-cut Starry Sky and Basic White elements using Earthen Textures dies. Adhere together using Multipurpose Liquid Glue, then adhere to Cardstock Vellum.
9. Ink phrase using Starry Sky ink and stamp onto Basic White cardstock. Trim around phrase. Attach phrase to Cardstock Vellum layer using Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals.
10. Adhere an Iridescent Pearl Basic Jewel to the corner of the Cardstock Vellum layer.
11. Adhere Cardstock Vellum to card base, using Multipurpose Liquid Glue only on back side of Basic White element.
12. Attach a Mini Glue Dot on the backside of the Vellum layer, under each Pearl. Adhere Cardstock Vellum layer to card base.
13. Attach White Baker’s Twine bow to Starry Sky element using Mini Glue Dot.

Are you looking for an easy stamping technique?

Do you look for ways to create easy cards with an unusual technique?  The Faux Tearing technique is quite simple even for beginner stampers. It's an oldie but a goodie so don't forget to give it a try every now and then. 

Here's one very easy idea to try using the Color & Contour stamp set (formerly sold as a bundle, now sold separately):

 

Supplies:

Stamp set: Color & Contour 154994

Ink: Memento Black 132708, Basic Gray 149165, Soft Sea Foam 147102.

Stampin’ Blends:  Poppy Parade 154958, Old Olive 154892, Highland Heather 154887.

Paper:  Poppy Parade (119793) 5 ½ X 8 ½ sc 4 ¼, Basic Black (121045) 4 x 5 ¼, Basic White (159276) 3 ¾ X 5, Masking Paper (155480).

Accessories:  Blending Brushes (153611), Paper Trimmer (152392), Silicone Craft Mat (127853), Multipurpose Glue (110755).

Instructions:

1. Tear two pieces masking paper for width of Basic White cardstock and apply. 
   
   
   
   
2. Stamp images between and on top of masking paper.
3. Color as desired using your Stampin’ Blends.
4. Using Blending Brush and Sea Foam ink lightly apply ink over image to give the background a soft color.
5. Remove masking tape and stamp sentiment using Basic Gray ink.
6. Add adhesive and apply above to the Basic Black cardstock and then to Poppy Parade card base.
7. Add embellishments if you desire.

Want to add a unique metallic look to your cards?

As usual I decided to go a bit rogue on the sketch to add my own flavor. I chose some leftover pieces of the Dry Brushed Metallics Specialty designer series paper:

You can metallic shimmer to your paper crafting projects with this Specialty Designer Series Paper. This mixed metallic paper combines metallic ink and foil with textural dry brush designs for a unique finish. 

I also chose my Meadow Dies for the circular element - again stepping outside the design box. 

I have definitely gotten my money's worth from this pack of dies. I love wildflowers and using these on my cards adds visual interest.

How to add beautiful elements onto your cards

Did you know Christmas is only 6 months away! Christmas is one of those times where you send a lot of cards to all your friends and family. And now is the perfect time to start thinking about what you want your Christmas cards to look like and I have the perfect idea for you to try. 

Here is one of my favorite cards to share with you along with instructions on how to make it at home. It uses the Grassy Grove stamp set:

Bring the beauty and majesty of the natural world into your craft room with the Grassy Grove Stamp Set. The stamp images include hills, grasses, and trees to create a natural setting. Or the images can be stamped to create a single-color silhouette. The set also includes a sweet doe to use as a focal point on your projects and a variety of card greetings that will appeal to everyone. The rubber on the stamp includes a subtle texture so when it’s stamped there is natural-looking shading and highlighting. 

The stamp set even has matching Grove Dies:

Create a grove with a sweet family of deer with the Grove Dies. Layer die-cut trees, bushes, and deer to create a forest diorama.     One Horse Open Sleigh DSP: 3-3/4” x 5”, ½” x 5-1/4”

    Early Espresso: scraps for deer

Instructions:

1. Cut all cardstock
2. Die Cut your forest and deer
3. Glue the forest die cut to the DSP (don’t use a lot of the liquid glue
4. Adhere the framed forest to the Moody Mauve cardstock
5. Adhere to Boho Blue card base
6. Glue Deer’s feet down and head will have mini dimensionals on them (Small deer I cut the mini in half)
7. Mix alcohol and 5-6 drops of wink of Stella in a Spritzer. Shake it up
8. Spray the card front
9. Stamp sentiment on Basic White and add the ½” strip to the bottom
10. Add 3 Rhinestones
11. Tip: remember to stamp the envelope

Hello fellow crafters! Today we are going to play around with a product that I don't use that much which is a shame because it adds such visual interest on cards. I am talking about Cardstock Vellum and I have 2 fun ways to show you how to use it. I learned one of the techniques at a recent online event for Stampin' Up! demonstrators. 

 

To create some of the elements on my card I will be using the Irresistible Blooms stamp set, which is perfect for all-occasion projects to say hello or thank you and to make smiles bloom.

 

 

The set is great for coloring opportunities and techniques like I will show you today. There are so many creative possibilities you’ll want to try with this set!

 

I am also using the Timeworn Type embossing folder to add some texture and visual interest on my card. I love the antique look that this folder creates. 

 

 

To create the main element on my card I used the Tailor Made Tags Dies:

Easily add die-cut tags to your next papercrafting project

This week I have a fun Paper Craft Crew card sketch challenge with a tag! 

I planned right away to use my Tailor Made Tags dies (cuz it's easy!) but you can create tags without dies for this challenge. 

I decided to use a leftover piece of Fresh as a Daisy designer series paper on my card base and then chose ink and cardstock colors to coordinate:

I went a bit rogue on the square elements in the sketch. I decided to create two Daisy elements from the Cheerful Daisies dies but not layer them. And I decided no phrase just yet so layered a strip of Early Espresso cardstock instead.

I love how my card turned out, do you?

You need to try this Sunburst technique - it's amazing

Hello fellow crafters! If you have lots of designer series paper strips lying around, and I bet you do, then I have the perfect technique to show you today. I will be using leftover pieces of the Countryside Inn designer series paper for my card idea. 

 

I chose the Countryside Inn designs for my card because I love the patterns that were inspired by fine china and wallpaper patterns. This paper includes florals, woodland animals, nature, and ceramic designs. I also love that the main colors are blue and white, making this technique so easy to coordinate.

 

 

As I show in my video below, you will use several strips of pattern paper cut into wedges. Once your Starburst is created, you will then choose a phrase or elements to add. 

 

I chose my Something Fancy stamp set and matching dies to add a simple phrase because I want the starburst to be the standout on my card:

How to make a beautiful card with no stamps or ink

Measurements: 

• Basic White: 5 ½ x 8 1/2" (score and fold at 4 ¼”)
• Designer Series Paper: 3” x 5 ½”, 1” x 5 ½”
• Basic Black: 2” x 4”, 1 ¼” x 3 ½”
• Bubble Bath: 1 ¼” x 3 ¾”
• Fresh Freesia: 1” x 3”

Instructions:

1. Fold Basic White card stock in half to make the card base.
2. Attach the Designer Series Papers to the card front.
3. Die Cut Basic Back card stock with the smallest Nested Essential die. Attach to the card.
4. Die cut Bubble Bath card stock with the Celebrate outline die.
5. Attach Basic Black card stock to an adhesive sheet. Die cut the word Celebrate and attach to the Bubble bath die cut. Attach to the card.
6. Die cut 2 flowers and attach to the card.
7. Add a Rhinestone to the center of each flower.

There are so many possibilities for this one and I decided that the main layer on my card base would be a bold pattern of designer paper, from the Fresh as a Daisy pack:

The pattern I chose also had me using a new In Colors for the first time: Moody Mauve. And I really love it! 

The Fresh as a Daisy paper is the perfect match for the Cheerful Daisies bundle so I course I used it too: 

There are so many possibilities and color choices that you can just let your imagination run wild and have fun. Here's my card for this week's challenge:
