In today's CASE the Catty video series I am going to feature the Sweet Conversations bundle in the new Jan-June Mini Catalog. I am going to show you how to take one of the catalog samples and add your own lil twist.
First, let's look at the Sweet Conversations Stamp Set. This fun, valentine-themed set includes a variety of hearts—including conversation hearts—that can be used on valentines and with other love-themed projects. It also includes circles, stripes, and a tag, all things that make this set even more versatile.
Now let's have a look at what the Stampin' Up! concept artists have created - at the back of the catalog on page 83.
This sample here caught my eye - I don't often use Vellum so thought I would give it try on today's card, using the new Layering Designs Vellum, also in the Mini Catalog.
You can add a little vintage and some pretty texture with this vellum pack with it newsprint, handwritten letters and map designs. Create unique elements and layers using punches or dies or use it as a card front layer which is what we are going to do on today's card.
The bright colored paper layer and some of the hearts on my card come from the Flowering Fields designer series paper pack - love love love these designs:
Here are the coordinating colors - so many possibilities, right? Calypso Coral, Evening Evergreen, Fresh Freesia, Highland Heather, Mango Melody, Pear Pizzazz, Petal Pink, Pool Party, Poppy Parade, Pumpkin Pie, Rich Razzleberry, So Saffron, Soft Succulent
Here's my card, with a lil twist! Read on for the list of supplies and a video showing you how to make this card at home.

The Symbols of Fortune Suite featured in the January-June 2021 Mini Catalog has so many amazing products! Included are the Crane of Fortune Stamp Set and coordinating Good Fortune Dies, Symbols of Fortune and Mother of Pearl 12” x 12” Specialty Designer Series Papers, Soft Succulent ½” Satin Shimmer Ribbon, and Polished Dots (self-adhesive with a pearlescent finish).
The project shown here features several of these items (see materials list below).
Crane of Fortune Bundle:
* Crane of Fortune Stamp Set
* Good Fortune Dies
Paper:
* Symbols of Fortune DSP: 6” x 9-3/4” (two pieces) for front and back covers; 3-1/2” x 9-3/4” (scored vertically at 1-1/2”, 1-5/8”, 1-3/4”, 1-7/8” and 2”) contrast design for binding edge; 3-3/8” x 1” for pen
* Gold Foil card stock: scraps for dies and punch
* White card stock: scraps for crane and sentiment
Ink:
* Basic Gray Classic Stampin’ Pad
Accessories and Tools:
* Everyday Label Punch
* Layering Circles Dies
* Gold Fine Art Ribbon for bookmark
* Polished Dots
* Gilded Leafing
Other Materials:
* 9-3/4” x 7-1/2” Composition Book
* Origami Crane made from 6” x 6” Gold Origami Paper for bookmark
* RSVP Pen
Assembly:
Adhere 9-3/4” x 6” DSP to front and back of book, lining up paper with top, bottom, and open edge of book; trimming excess at corners. Use a sanding block or thick emery board to smooth down edges.
Score 9-3/4” x 3-1/2” DSP vertically. Line up scored area along spine of journal and use a strong adhesive to adhere remaining 1-1/2” to front and back of book slightly overlapping edge of main DSP. (NOTE: Do not adhere scored portion, but be sure to keep it wrapped tightly when adhering the 1-1/2” on each side – this allows flexibility when opening and closing the book.)
Cut “fan” leaves from gold foil card stock and adhere to front over seam of two DSPs.
Cut circle and adhere near lower right edge of front. Stamp crane on white card stock and cut out with die. Adhere over gold circle. Add dots of liquid glue over edges of feathers and apply Gilded Leafing. Allow to dry and rub or brush off excess.
Cut additional piece of “fan” leaf and adhere at top of circle. Stamp sentiment on white card stock and punch out with Everyday Label punch. Cut second label from Gold Foil card stock, cut in half, and adhere to back of white label with about 3/16” edge showing at each end. Adhere over gold leaves with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
Adhere self-adhesive Polished Dots randomly among leaves and on label.
To make bookmark, cut about 15” of ribbon. Cut two of the largest “fan” leaves and adhere on both sides of ribbon at bottom end. Make or purchase origami crane; cut a slit wide enough to insert opposite end of ribbon (cover both sides of ribbon with Tear ‘n Tape before inserting inside of crane). (NOTE: Very good and simple origami crane instructions can be found at www.origami-fun.com.)
Of course, you need to have a matching pen to complete the set. Unscrew and remove pen insert from pen RSVP or another clear-barrel pen. Wrap 3-3/8” x 1” DSP around pen insert and reinsert into barrel.

Here's one beautiful card idea you can make at home - don't miss my instructions below!
When we think of Valentine's Day we often think of chocolates and flowers and love and friendship, right? So this week's Paper Craft Crew is the perfect match!
I looked through my stash of stamping supplies and decided to choose my Quiet Meadow stamp set and see what I could create.
Flowers, background patterns, and greetings--you'll find all these things in the Quiet Meadow set. Put them all together for perfect projects! Choose one greeting, flower, and pattern or bring several of them together for a collage effect. You're sure to convey a positive message.
Quiet Meadow has a 'Love' stamp in the set but I decided that the 'Thinking of you" phrase could also work. I decided to choose Polished Pink for my card base and then emboss the card base using the new Hive 3D embossing folder - it's my first time using it!
Here's my card:
Now it's your turn, give this week's card map challenge a try and see what you can create. If you want to see what the other design crew members created for this week's challenge, click here.
It's technique time! You may have used your Stampin’ Blends to color line art images, but have you tried using them to create a colorful background layer?
Here’s how:
Step 1: Chose your 3 favorite and complimentary colors of Stampin’ Blends. You will be using the light and the dark marker of each color.
Step 2: Beginning with the darkest color overall, and using the brush end, swipe color across the middle of a card layer of Basic White. Begin with using the dark blend and then use the light blend of the same color on either side.
Step 3: Take the second set of Stampin’ Blends (a bit lighter in tone) and brush these two colors (dark first, then light) on either side of the existing colors.
Step 4: Take the final (third) set of Blends and add these two colors to the remaining white space, using dark and then light. This will complete the layer.
Step 5: Add the layer to a card base and complete the card using your favorite stamps and embellishments.
Here’s one idea for this this background blends technique, using the Sweet Conversations bundle #157624:

Try this idea using your favorite Stampin' Blends color combinations and stamps sets. It's easy, colorful and fun!
In today's CASE the Catty series I am going to feature the Crane of Fortune bundle in the new Jan-June Mini Catalog. I am going to show you how to take one of the catalog samples and add your own lil twist. I am also going to show you how to make a beautiful sun element if you don't have a sun stamp in your crafting room.
First, let's look at the Crane of Fortune bundle (click on the bundle image to order it at my online store):
This product was on my first catalog order for two reasons - having traveled to Japan a few times, I now love all things with an Asian design. And there are so many cranes that I can see when walking by the canals where I love. Did you know that cranes represent good fortune?
The stamped images, including this elegant crane and dual chrysanthemum blossoms, will give your projects amazing texture and depth for a stunning focal point. And the sentiments can be used anytime you want to send your love and well-wishes.
The Good Fortune dies include the crane, gingko biloba leaves, and other intricate die-cut pieces that are sure to add texture and visual interest to all your papercrafting projects.
Now let's have a look at what the Stampin' Up! concept artists have created on page 24 of the Mini Catalog:
One of these samples here caught my eye - especially the sun element which I am going to show you how to create.
Here's my card idea - with a twist!
Yes my phrase is a bit wonky and you can see a bit of ghosting - I am trying to let that go!
Paper and cutting dimensions: Highland Heather: 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" Basic White: 3 1/2" x 3 1/4"; 3 1/4" x 4"; 2" x 1 1/2"; 2" square
Misc: Brights Stampin' Write Marker Assortment (147157); Stampin' Dimensionals; Mini Stampin' Dimensionals; Layering Circles dies (151770); Stampin' Blends Daffodil Delight (154883); 2021-23 In Color Jewels (155571)
Want to learn how to make that cool sun image? Watch my video below - make sure to follow along all the way through for my bonus tips and design ideas!

Here's this week's Paper Craft Crew card map challenge:
When I first saw this map I stumbled a bit - I don't have a starburst die or punch and that closed off my imagination and design thinking for a bit. So instead of concentrating on the map elements I looked instead at my stamp sets and bundles. With Valentine's Day coming soon I thought you might like a fun idea to try so I looked instead at a theme idea and how I could 'tweak' the map elements as a result.
I am having so much fun playing with the Sweet Conversations bundle. I recently created a YouTube Video (here) and thought maybe I would use the bundle to give you another idea.
The Sweet Conversations Bundle includes the Sweet Conversations Stamp Set and the Sweet Hearts Dies. The hearts in these products make it so easy to create unique valentines. You can also use them to create love notes throughout the year. (Also available in French)
This fun, Sweet Conversations valentine-themed set (17 stamps!) includes a variety of hearts—including conversation hearts—that can be used on valentines and with other love-themed projects. It also includes circles, stripes, and a tag, all things that make this set even more versatile.
The Sweet Hearts Dies (16 in the pack) is an explosion of hearts. But that's not all. In addition to the hearts, this set of dies include banners, a box, and a tag. Use them to make easy valentines, little love notes, and tiny treat boxes. You'll love seeing what you can create.
I thought it would be fun to replace the sunburst element with a heart and the square element with a tag. Once I did that, the rest was easy.
Here's my card:
Why not give our card map challenge a try and see what you come up with too? Think outside the card map box and have fun!

I love one of the Happy Hedgehogs samples on page 64 of the Mini, a card that was created by a Stampin' Up! concept artists. If you look at the note under the card, it says "Create unique plaid backgrounds with Watercolor Painters".
So I thought I would recreate this sample with my own lil twist and show you how to create the watercolored background.

Today's card features a new product in the Jan-June Mini Catalog: Butterflies & Flowers Decorative Masks:
You can create textured and colored backgrounds with these Decorative Masks. The stencils are an easy way to blend colors on your cards and other paper crafting projects. You can use the background masks on their own. But your images will really pop when you layer the detailed masks over the backgrounds to get even more depth and dimension. Use with classic ink and coloring tools such as Blending Brushes and Sponge Daubers for beautiful color. You can also use them with Embossing Paste and Palette Knives for textured designs.
Here's one card idea showing you how to create beautiful card images:
NON STAMPIN’ UP: Post It Notes for covering the Decorative Masks where needed.
Measurements
Gorgeous Grape: 5 1/2” x 8 1/2”
Highland Heather: 5 1/8" x 3 7/8"
Basic White: 3 3/4” x 5”, 4” x 5 1/4” (for inside panel)
Instructions
Score the Gorgeous Grape card base at 4 1/4” for a landscape card. Add the larger Basic White panel to the inside.
Position the delicate side of the floral mask piece on the smaller Basic White panel on the lower left side. Use Post It Notes where needed to protect the rest of the card panel.
Use a Blending Brush to add Gorgeous Grape ink to the card.
Flip to the thicker part of the Decorative Mask and align the small circles in the three flowers making sure no white shows. Place Post It Notes where needed. Use the same Blending Brush to add more Gorgeous Grape ink to the card.
Stamp a sentiment on the right side of the card with Versamark Ink and cover it with Gold Embossing Powder. Heat with the Heat Tool.
Add three of the Brushed Brass Butterflies to the card,
Adhere the Basic White panel to the Highland Heather panel with the liquid glue; add Stampin’ Dimensionals to the panel and add to the card front.
Tip: click on the decorative masks photo above to order it at my online store. Join me in making beautiful cards!
Sometimes it is nice to see a simple card map design as it helps us to revisit our crafting products and see all the possibilities waiting there.
That's the approach I took for today's Paper Craft Crew card map challenge.
At first I thought that I would use a layer of designer series paper on the card base. But I didn't really have a paper design that 'jumped out' at me.
So I thought, instead, about the stamp set I might use and that came to me easily:
The Awesome Otters stamp set is a FREE choice for Sale-a-bration right now - available with at $50 order (or €65 in the NL) until the end of February. Learn more about Sale-a-bration here!
I decided to use the otter image in the water and then it hit me. Rather than using designer paper on the card front, what if I used an embossing folder instead? So that's what I did. To achieve the affect I wanted, I first used my Blending Brushes...
.... to add two different colors of ink: Balmy Blue and Misty Moonlight. After that was applied to the Basic White card base I then embossed this layer with the Painted Texture 3D embossing folder:
This folder kind of looks like splashing water so that works for me.
Here's my Awesome Otters card map challenge card:
So dang cute! And now it's your turn - see what you can create using this week's card map challenge and see what speaks to you from your crafting space.
