Let me show you how to use beautiful paper

Today's Paper Craft Crew card map challenge has a couple of unusual elements: 

The two paper strips add visual interest and the angles of these strips catch the eye. 

When I started to work on a card for this challenge I decided to use up some designer paper for the card layer, rather than a white layer that I stamp on. I dug through my paper stash and found a left over piece of Lily Impressions designer paper - which was a free choice during Sale-a-Bration earlier this year. This paper is no longer available but that's ok. You should be using up your stash too so I hope you will use my card idea as inspiration. 

I also decided to use my Layering Ovals dies and a phrase from the Stitched All Around (retiring 2 June) stamp set. You may have noticed that the Layering Ovals are also retiring. There is a reason for that but I cannot share it just yet!

I stamped the phrase two times using Blueberry Bliss and Lovely Lipstick. Both colors are also retiring (sad face). For the two paper strips I decided to choose two colors from the Lily Impressions paper: Pool Party and Lovely Lipstick.

Want to see where I get my crafting ideas from? (part four)

For today's blog post I want to show you another way I get crafting ideas - from my punches! I don't use my punches all that often, especially after I bought my Big Shot, dies and embossing folders. 

The projects I want to show you today mostly use four punches: 1/2" circle, Daisy, Leaf and 3/4" circle:

1/2" (1.3 Cm) Circle Punch

You will notice that the photo for the 3/4" circle punch is missing. I didn't realize that this punch retired last year but I am sure you will forgive my error and come up with your own idea using this punch. And if you have looked at the list of retiring products from the 2019-20 Annual Catalog you will see that the 1/2" circle punch and Leaf punch will be retiring 2 June or sooner - these products are only available as supplies last. 

Each card below has a different twist but all of them use some or all of the punches above.

Daisy card #1

This card uses the Stone 3D embossing folder and a layer of left over Garden Lane paper - the colors in the designer paper helped me to decide the colors for the card base and layers. I decided to make this a Mother's Day card to give you one more idea for this special day. If you want to see two other ideas for Mother's Day cards, click here and click here.

Daisy card #2

This fun Daisy card was quick and easy to make and shows you that you can use the Daisy punch with Mosaic Mood designer paper. Find a pattern that is subtle and then use the same paper as a larger layer on your card base. Add a phrase, and your card is done!

This beautiful card idea uses the Basket Weave 3D embossing folder for a card layer instead of designer paper. After I embossed the layer I then used a circle die to cut a window out of it and then attached the daisy. This window effect adds a lovely focus not the daisy, doesn't it? The only color I used was for the phrase, leaves and the daisy center.

This card uses plain card stock (Crushed Curry) for the daisy. I used a sponge dauber and Soft Suede ink to sponge all elements on this card which adds a vintage feel. I again used a left over piece of Mosaic Mood for a layer which adds visual interest.

See this fun twist on a Mother's Day card

In today's video tutorial, I am going to show you yet another Mother's Day card idea, this time using the Honey Bee bundle. This card has a fun twist to its layout and anyone who gets this card in the mail will get a nice surprise.

I am so sad that the Honey Bee bundle is going to retire on 2 June (or before if supplies run out!). I have had a lot of fun crafting with it:

Instructions:

• Fold Rich Razzleberry card base in half.
• Die cut the Detailed Branch die from the Sweet Silhouettes Dies from the 4 ¾ x 3 ¾ Sparkle Glimmer Paper.
• Treat the DSP with Embossing Buddy to prepare for heat embossing.
• Stamp the little girl in the swing onto the DSP with Versamark ink. Cover image with Shimmery White Stampin’ Emboss Powder and Heat Set. Attach the die cut tree branch with liquid glue. Add to Whisper White layer. Trim off any tree branches or leaves that overhang.
• Attach the card front to the card base
• On Scrap of Whisper White stamp, the sentiment from the stamp set and die cut using one of the stitched scalloped rectangles die from the Stitched So Sweetly Dies. Add a little of the 3/8” Crushed Curry Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon in the middle of where the Sentiment will go with adhesive.
• Attach sentiment to card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
• Embellish with a few Rhinestones Basic Jewels
• Take the 5 ¼ x 4 piece of whisper white and stamp the same little girl image on the inside of the card with Rich Razzleberry Classic Ink and the sentiment that says Keep Dreaming. Attach to the inside of the card base.

I have decided to focus on helping you with Mother's Day card ideas as that is the next occasion that we should celebrate. When I think of Mother's Day I think of florals and soft colors. You may think differently for your mother so today's card could simply be inspiration for design layout instead of a direct copy of my idea.

I love the large floral image in this set and the phrases too! These make for easy card ideas. Instead of a plain background in my card base, I decided on a left-over pieces of the Magnolia Lane paper:

1. Fold Petal Pink card stock in half and score to create card base.

4. Die-cut bottom edge of Whisper White layer. Stamp phrase using Mossy Meadow ink. Adhere layer to card base using SNAIL.

Here's how to celebrate the beauty of spring

In the past few weeks I have tried to take a walk every single day, knowing that it is good for my well-being to get some fresh air and exercise. 

I will say that I do feel better after my walk and I have already seen a difference in how I look too. One day a take a half-hour walk and the next I take an hour and 10 minute walk - both through a beautiful forest that is near to where I live. 

Along with my daily walk I have started to notice signs of spring along the way - to trees (finally) budding leaves, to all the flowers that are now blooming. When I see something that really strikes me as beautiful I have stopped to snap a photo or two with my phone. 

This week I decided to take a couple of my photos and create a scrapbook page - to celebrate the beauty of spring and also to remember that life does go on despite all the tragedy I feel happening in the world. When it came tome to make my scrapbook page I chose colors that matched the colors in my photos:

• So Saffron

What comes to mind when you see this card map?

Today's Paper Craft crew card map challenge looks interesting! Nothing came to mind immediately, which doesn't usually happen to me. Usually something comes to mind immediately and making my card is a breeze.

As I usually do, I went through my designer paper stash and found a left over strip of Magnolia Lane paper:

The colors in this paper then determined my card base: Petal Pink. I next decided to emboss the card layer using the Subtle 3D folder. This creates a nice textured, subtle look - and a little bit of visual interest. 

Now that I have the paper and colors, the circle image was easy. I decided to use the corresponding Good Morning Magnolia stamp set:

I stamped the flower image and colored it with my Stampin' Blends. For the 'washi tape' look on the map I used a strip of the Petal Pink sticker from the Memories & More card kit that is part of the Magnolia Lane suite. A couple of Petal Pink sequins and my card is done!

Want to see where I get my crafting ideas from? (part three)

Today I want to share another way that I get crafting ideas. This idea come from using what I have on hand but using a minimal number of products. 

Recently I challenged myself to come up with a bunch of ideas using one set of products and very few colors. I chose the Good Morning Magnolia bundle. The bundle has two stamp sets and one set of corresponding dies:

Along with this bundle I chose three ink pads and the same in card stock:

• Petal Pink
• Mossy Meadow
• Memento Tuxedo Black

Instead of using the ink pad colors (keeping the black) you can substitute the ink pads for the same color Stampin' Write markers. It's all a matter of preference.

I also used up some leftover pieces of the Magnolia Lane designer series paper (which comes with the entire product suite should you choose to purchase that before it retires on 2 June - I assume):

I came up with five different cards using these products. 

Idea One: for this sample I also used my Stitched Shapes dies. If you don't own these, no worries - just created two plain layered squares. 

Idea two: For this card I die-cut several petals and layered them to create a flower. If you look closely you can see that I also stamped the background of the card base. 

Idea three: For the background layer I used a piece of vellum and a sticker tag from the Magnolia Lane Memories & More card pack. If you don't own this pack, no worries - simply use a left over piece of the Magnolia Lane designer series paper. 

Idea four: This card uses the Layering Ovals dies for the phrase. If you don't own these use punches or simply cut rectangle layers instead. 

Idea five: This pretty card uses one of the sticker embellishments from the Magnolia Lane Memories & More card pack. If you don't own this pack, no worries - simply create a second flower embellishment and use it instead.

This fancy fold card idea is really easy if you cut all the layers first and get everything laid out and ready to adhere. As I mention in my video if you don't have a scoring board it is still easy to make this card using a pencil, ruler and bone folder, or lay your ruler down your card and use it as a fold guide. If there's a will there's a way, right?

What I like best about this card is that once you have the above two products, you can mix and match colors and papers  to use what you have on hand. I will admit that Call Me Clover is not my favorite green in the Stampin' Up! catalog but I love how it looks when mixed with Daffodil Delight.

3. Die cut Daffodil Delight CS using Painted Labels die. Die cut Whisper White CS using Layering Circles die. 
4. Stamp sentiment onto die cut circle using Call Me Color ink.  Adhere circle to Daffodil Delight die cut.  Add to card front top flap using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
5. Finish by adding bow and Happiness Blooms Enamel Dots.

5 reasons why I love Stampin' Up! ink pads

Did you know that Stampin' Up! changed its style of ink pads a couple of years ago? Perhaps you are new to Stampin' Up! or perhaps you just trusted the company enough to buy them before you tried them. 

Here's a video from Stampin' Up! that introduces the new style. Then have a look at the five reasons I love them so much!

 

a. The cases have a slimmer profile, which makes them easier to store. They also lay flat on your crafting table.

b. The four dots on the bottom of each pad line up with the four indents on the top so you can easily stack them vertically. 

c. the lid is tighter and locks into place when closed. This takes getting used to but be assured that this means they are virtually air tight and will remain juicy for a long time. And with use the sliding action will become easier. 

d. Each pad comes with five removable labels on the back. One of the labels is solid (blank) and you can fit it into the well when your ink pad is open to easily see which color that ink pad is. Or try the idea suggested in the video above. Tip: use the remaining label for ink daubers or folders for matching card stock!

e. Fifty colors. In four collections. Plus 10 In Colors that change out every two years to allow for 10 new colors to play with. What more can I say!

Making beautiful cards is easy when you have this on hand!

Today's Paper Craft Crew card map challenge is an easy one and I am going to show a super easy card that I created using this map. 

First the map: pretty straightforward, right? 

I did spend some time trying to figure out that cardboard-looking layer. And then I remembered that I had this product on hand:

The photo of the Magnolia Lane Memories & More card pack just doesn't do it justice. This card pack features beautiful floral images, and you get some other fun products as part of the pack.

* 50 total double-sided cards (2 each of 25 designs) 
* 6 4" x 6" (10.2 x 15.2 cm) single-sided printed vellum specialty cards
* Great for scrapbooking and cardmaking

The coordinating colors are: Basic Black, Early Espresso, Garden Green, Mint Macaron, Mossy Meadow, Petal Pink, So Saffron, Soft Sea Foam, Whisper White

So for my card below, I took one of the double-sided cards, trimmed it down a bit using my paper trimmer and then used it as a layer. 

Then I got a second fun idea: I would use one of the 3" x 4" cards in the same card pack as my top layer and wrapped some Magnolia Lane ribbon (found in the same product suite, page 37 Annual Catalog) around that card to finish it all off!
