What convinced your mini catalog choices? Here's what happened to me.

Here's a fun Paper Craft Crew card map to try. When I saw this challenge I knew right away what I wanted to use for the square box in the middle. 

A few days about my handsome man in brown delivered a new box of crafting goodies and inside that box was a new bundle. Now I must confess that I was determined NOT to get this bundle because I didn't know if I would use it. But I loved the matching paper in the Sale-a-Bration catalog so much that, well, you know.

I think the Golden Honey paper is da bomb! I love the patterns and colors and know that I will use up every bit of this pack before it retires on 31 March (and is gone for good).

And that's what convinced me to get the Honey Bee bundle in my recent order. I have seen so many super cool samples using Honey Bee and I wanted to use the set in my Bullet Journal for one of my monthly spreads.

When I saw the square in the middle right away I thought of the bee hive stamp and decided to stamp it in yellow and layer it onto a black square. It is fun when an idea jumps into your head isn't it? This doesn't often happen to me but this week it did. 

The rest was easy. Don't miss the Versamark background on my card - I used the same honey bee stamp to create a subtle visual detail.

How to coordinate colors on your projects

When sitting down to create a card I often have a layout idea in mind but occasionally struggle with what colors to use. Do you find this too?

Sometimes the occasion for the card dictates the color choices (think Christmas), sometimes the age of the recipient does (think babies) and sometimes the season of the year can affect my choices (think fall).

But beyond that, what else? 

With our fabulous designer series papers, the color combinations laid out for us in each sheet - and the coordinating colors are even listed under the name of each paper pack in the catalog!

You can color coordinate to the paper colors and be worry-free knowing that these colors were designed to go together! 

For each product suite in the Mini Catalog, Stampin' Up! indicates the colors you should combine, to match the paper and embellishments in the suite. Here are the colors for the Country Club suite, as as example:

Another way to color coordinate is to look at Stampin' Up!s color collections: Brights, Subtles and Regals. Once again these colors are selected not only for their tones but also should be seen as coordinating collections!

A third way to coordinate colors is to use Stampin' Up! Color Coach, created to help you coordinate the Color Collections with the In Colors. Here's an example:

When was the last time you created a clean and simple card

Did you know that 'clean and simple' is actually a technique? Lots of crafters love this technique and have nicknamed it CAS. Try a google search for CAS and see how many ideas come up!

I also love this technique because I think simple can be just as pretty as detailed. Every once in a while I go through a CAS phase and love how quickly I can create cards using this technique. 

Today's card features a bundle that just arrive at my place this week: Honey Bee Bundle (#153792).

Measurement:

• Daffodil Delight: 5 ½” x 8 ½” scored at 4 ¼” – this will be your card base
• Basic Black: 3 7/8” x 5 1/8”
• Whisper White: 3 ¾” x 5” and scrap for the beehive and small bee

 

Instructions:

1. Stamp the beehive onto the whisper white scrap using daffodil ink.
2. Die cut it using the coordinating die.
3. Stamp the greeting using memento ink onto the white layer.
4. Add the beehive below the greeting using dimensionals.
5. Stamp one of the small bees onto the white layer and another onto a scrap of white.
6. Colour them in using the daffodil delight stampin’ blends marker.
7. Add a bit of wink of stella to the wings for some shimmer.
8. Die cut the one bee using the coordinating die.
9. Add it to the card front using dimensionals.
10. Draw the flight path using the fine tip of the stampin’ write marker.
11. Add the white layer to the center of the black cardstock and that to the center of the card front.

How to create unusual romantic card design

So let's start with the From My Heart Suite:

So yummy - and in a real way with those fun Heart Foil Tins! And when you put them into the oven to bake up a delicious treat, turn to the rest of the products and create this card. 

Although the layout is simple, the diagonal stamping (Crumb Cake ink on Crumb Cake card stock) adds visual interest, as does the black arrow. Tip: carefully place the black arrow so that the heart layer fits on top nicely. 

The stamped and punched hearts are easy-peasy and add a lovely and colorful detail to the card front. Can you figure out where the top heart came from?

Add the My Heart Faceted Gems for the final touch and your card is done - before those baked goodies are out of the oven! 

Heartfelt Valentine

Here's how to make this card:

Supplies:

• Stamp Sets – Heartfelt (151427 or bundle: 153775)
• Card Stock – Whisper White Thick (140272); Real Red (102482); Crumb Cake (120953); From My Heart Speciality Designer Series Paper (151189)
• Stamp Pads – Crumb Cake (147116); Memento Tuxedo Black (132708)

Instructions:

1. Stamp sentiment in Crumb Cake ink at a diagonal across the Crumb Cake layer as shown.
2. Stamp arrow with Memento ink only inking up the point end - stamp. Clean stamp. Ink up the fletching end and stamp making the arrow longer so you’ll see more of it behind the punched heart.
3. Add Real Red ribbon ash shown.
4. Punch detailed heart from DSP and layer on Real Red Scalloped Heart and then to card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
5. Add Faceted Gems where desired.

You need to see my unusual take on this card map

Here's today's Paper Craft Crew card map challenge and as soon as I saw it I decided to do something unusual with the large center image. 

I didn't want to use a punched image with a layer. Instead, I knew right away that I wanted to use my Painted Poppies stamp set and replace that center image with not one, but three poppies. 

Do you ever get that sometimes? When you see a card map or another card and this idea pops into your head? That's what happened to me. 

So I grabbed my Painted Poppies bundle:

and set to work by stamping and coloring the poppies and leaves. Then the rest was pretty simple. I laid the poppies and leaves on the Granny Apple Green card front (did you spot the Versamark stamped background?) and then when I was happy with how they looked, I adhered them down. 

That left the phrase. Again, an idea popped to mind: to use my Well Written dies instead of a stamped and punched phrase:

The final touch was to add a few of the Peaceful Poppies Sequins and taa-daa, my card was complete:

I'm so lucky to have a special friend like you

If I asked you how a special friend might be, who would immediately come to mind? And what makes this friend special? The fun you have? The history you have? That you think alike? 

My life has blessed me with so many wonderful friends - from school, when I first began teaching, and even moving to new countries. Every place I have lived has brought me a special friend or two or three, most of whom I am still in contact with today. These special friends have really enriched my life and I hope I have made a small difference in return.

Instructions:

1. Using the scalloped heart punch, punch out one Flirty Flamingo heart and one Real Red heart from the 12x12 sheet of hearts, included in the package of specialty paper.
2. On the Red Heart, stamp your sentiment using Tuxedo Black ink.
3. On scrap of Real Red, stamp the dotted outline heart in Tuxedo Black Ink, and punch out using the “plain” heart punch.
4. Adhere this piece to the Flirty Flamingo heart.
5. Assemble your card as shown.Use Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere the Sentiment.
6. The ribbon bow is adhered with a glue dot.

How to turn showers into beautiful flowers

As you look at the images in the photo above you will note the images are 'line art', which means they are perfect for coloring with markers, Stampin' Blends, watercolor pencils, etc. But there is another way too, which I hope you will try someday.

I explain in my video below that I won the Under My Umbrella stamp set at Stampin' Up!s On Stage event (like a convention) in November. At the event we were given a copy of the Mini Catalog, got to see all the new products and see other demonstrators create amazing projects using the products. A really fun part about On Stage are the prize patrols and during one of them I won the Under My Umbrella set. The Umbrella Builder punch didn't come with my prize and after a bit of deliberation I decided this week to add it to my stamping collection. So you will see it in another video, coming soon, along with the reason I decided to purchase the punch. 

Back to today's card. I recently saw a card that I loved and decided to create my own version to share with you today. I wanted to use the Peaceful Poppies paper on my card front and so chose two pieces; one for a large background layer and a different design for the umbrella itself.
