How to make a beautiful window card

In today's video I am going to make a beautiful thank you card with the help of my Verdant Garden stamp set and a set of new framelits that I just received this week.

These new Stitched Rectangle framelits are perfect for the window card technique as they add a nice faux stitched border around the window, adding visual interest. The key to this card is choosing a designer paper pattern that is lovely to look at and then choosing a stamp that coordinates the paper with the card base.

Instructions:

1. Burnish the fold in the card base using a Bone Folder.
2. Stamp the sentiment in Basic Gray ink onto a scrap of Whisper White CS and die cut it.
3. Stamp the bird in Pool Party ink onto the Whisper White CS for the inside of the card.
4. Die cut a scrap of DSP, and a scrap of Smoky Slate CS. 
5. Glue the Pool Party CS layer onto the front of the card base.
6. Glue the DSP layer onto the Pool Party CS layer.
7. Glue the Smoky Slate CS die cut onto the DSP layer.
8. Glue the DSP die cut onto the Smoky Slate CS die cut.
9. Adhere the die cut sentiment onto the DSP die cut using Stampin’ Dimensionals.
10. Adhere the bow trinket onto the sentiment using a Mini Glue Dot.
11. Glue the Whisper White CS onto the inside of the card base.

Well now you can, with the fabulous Come Sail Away product suite! And today I have a fun scrapbook page using many of these elements. 

First, here's the suite, in case you haven't seen it yet:

I decided to make a page featuring two photos and to use up some of the Come Sail Away paper that I had left over from another project. After centering this paper strip down the middle of my page I then added two Basic Black photo frames, one on either side.

Then I turned to the Memories & More card pack in this suite and chose 2 cards to compliment the grey and black theme that seemed to be emerging. 

And finally, to match my paper design I die-cut two underwater plants to add some visual interest to each of the cards. The final touch was to add some Adhesive-backed Sequins for a final sparkly touch.

How to create your card designs like a pro

I use card maps a lot when I need inspiration. I use them to help me get started with a layout and then go from there. Often my final product doesn't match the map but that's ok. It was just the bump I needed to open my mind and unlock my creativity.

I wanted to try an unusual layout this week, starting with a Whisper White layer on the Whisper White card base. Instead of layering my Come Sail Away paper in the center of the Whisper White layer, (which I usually do) I moved it to the right side then I positioned my stamped and die-cut sail boats on the left side. popped up with Stampin' Dimensionals.  

The center of my card was looking pretty bare so I decided to add a strip of Balmy Blue card stock, a sticker phrase from the Come Sail Away Memories & More card pack and then a die-cut steering wheel.

You need to learn how to make this fancy border

Can you see how the washi tape was used to add a fun element on the card? The 'hooray' phrase comes from the wonderful Well Written dies but if you don't have those (yet), then simply stamp a phrase in its place instead.

Measurements:  

• Thick Whisper White:  8” x 5 1/2” scored at 4 ¼” (this will be your card base)
• Pacific Point: 1” x 5 ½”
• Daffodil Delight: 3” x 3 ½”  
• Basic Black: 1 ¼” x 3”
• Whisper White: scrap for stamping

Instructions:

1. Run the pacific point cardstock through the die cutting machine with the ribbon border die. Note: you’ll have to run it through twice because it’s not quite long enough to match the width of the card. 
2. Add that to the shorter end of the card front, ensuring it doesn’t extend past the back of the card.
3. Wrap a bakers twine around the card and tie a bow.
4. Using the 2^nd largest stitched nested label die, cut the daffodil cardstock so that you have about 3 ¼” of the label in height.
5. Wrap washi tape around the top of the label shape tucking the ends around the back.
6. Add this to the card front.
7. Cut out one of the SU logos from the washi tape and add it to the upper left corner of the label.
8. Stamp the ribbon image using memento black ink and color it in using the Stampin’ Blends. Note – pacific point Stampin’ Write marker was used for the striped ribbon.
9. Die cut the image using the coordinating die.
10. Add it to the card using dimensionals.
11. Stamp ‘for you’ using memento ink just above the bakers twine bow on the right.
12. Die cut the word ‘hooray’ from black cardstock and add it to the card front.

3. Wrap Bakers Twine around Pineapple Punch; adhere to card base.
4. Stamp Pineapple with Memento Ink on scrap of Whisper White.
5. Color with Stampin' Blends.
1. Light and Dark Old Olive for the leaves.
2. Color the fruit with Light Crumb Cake.  Then color over top with Dark Pineapple Punch.
6. Punch the stamped piece with the punch.
7. Adhere to card with dimensionals.

 

In life it's important to take the scenic route

Are you the type of person who takes the scenic route in life? I sure am because there is so much to see and do in such a short span of time. 

My life experiences have taught me that you shouldn't wait for the right time or moment. You need to take life by the horns and go for it! Whether at home, at work, or....all the time!

Today's blog post is sharing a product suite that has retired but I promised myself I would use it all up before moving on to any new supplies. And besides, you can take my idea and use products you have on hand, right? 

The moment I spotted the Best Route suite on Stampin' Up!s display boards I knew that I had met a crafter's dream. So many fun products and I bought them ALL once that catalog when live. 

I have created a few pages using this suite and posted them here on my blog. Check here and here for a couple of ideas. 

I had so much fun creating today's page. I used up one of the Washi Tape rolls (New Year's Resolution, check!) and came up with a fun idea using one of the Memories & More cards:

• I trimmed the phrase "Always take the scenic route" from the card to use separately down the left side
• I then used one of the left over pieces of the same card to create a banner in the middle of my page. I simply turned it over to use the striped side!

I am sad to see this product suite retire. I only have a few more bits and pieces left so watch for another page using them, coming soon!

 

 

Why not try this interesting card map challenge?

This week's Paper Craft Crew card map seems very simple but has some interesting elements that make it slightly different to try. 

What I really like about the above card map is that the ovals are off-center a bit which adds visual interest. When you craft, try this off-set idea, whether using ovals, circles or even squares. 

I had a tough time trying to figure out the stamped images under the ovals. So I tried something out of my comfort zone: using the rope image and stamping it across the entire card front. This image is quite large so I needed to do it completely across the front so it would be clear what the image actually was. Instead of stamping an image you could also use a contrasting (but coordinating) paper strip, just for something a bit different. 

I also like that the banner layer is between the ovals rather than underneath, giving it another unique touch. 

And the embellishments - 5 in total. Again, beyond the usual 3 which you often see on cards and on card maps. 

So having analyzed all these interesting details I decided to use my Sailing Home stamp set and a left over strip of the Come Sail Away designer paper as the banner. 

For a different look, stamp and die-cut the lighthouse and then pop it up above the top oval, using Stampin' Dimensionals.

Learn how to make fabulous 3D flowers

How to create a beautiful Magnolia Lane thank you

In today's video I am going to introduce the Good Morning Magnolia stamp set and coordinating dies to show you how to make a beautiful thank you card. You can take this idea and make any kind of occasions card you need!

Oh my gosh, today's card is the easiest I have made this year! All thanks to my Magnolia Lane Memories & More card pack:

1. Fold Mossy Meadow card stock in half and crease to make card base.
2. Using SNAIL adhesive, adhere Basic Black strip to card base.
3. Add sticker strip from card pack across bottom of Magnolia Lane Happy Birthday card.
4. Stick two leaf stickers to back of flower sticker and then adhere to Happy Birthday card. (top right)
5. Adhere Magnolia Lane card to Basic Black layer.
6. Add Magnolia Lane card to card base using Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals.

A great was to use up your embellishments, part two

Just because the new catalog has gone live (yay!) doesn't mean you should turn away from your stash of crafting supplies. That's what I believe for myself too so today's card uses the new Magnolia Lane product suite along with some embellishments that have retired. 

Do you remember my New Year's Resolution to use up my embellishments? I feel have done a really good job working on my resolution but I still have some left and I am determined to use them in the coming months. Last week I posted one card idea using up some embellishments and today I have another card idea to share. 

I actually made the card below for a card map challenge and only after it was done I realized I couldn't post it on the challenge site because I had used retired products. But I thought you'd like to see my card anyway.
