How to make a super cute treat holder

Today is my final day at a job that I have had for the past 5 1/2 years! It is hard to say goodbye to my colleagues on the one hand but on the other hand it is exciting to have a new job within the same building that will offer me new challenges and connections that I have missed. 

A few weeks ago I published a YouTube video show how to make these really super cute treat holders and I liked the one I made so much that I decided to make one for each of my team members, along with a hand-stamped card of course, as a way to say thank you for the nice goodies they gave me and the nice champagne lunch they treated me too. 

If you know me you will understand why each of these treat holders are different. I love using up my scraps and I am just not a serial repeater. Each project I make has always had to be different from the one I made before. Although the pattern for these holders are the same the paper and colors for each are different. 

Four of the five of these treats use the Garden Impressions designer series paper, and one holder uses the Needlepoint Nook paper, both of which are  retiring on June 3, 2019:

How I found success with one design layout

I was rummaging through my stamp set collection this past weekend and realized I have two stamp sets that I haven't used in a while: Perennial Birthday and Sorry for Everything.

I wanted to make this 'Sorry' card for a good friend who has been going through a rough few months. There is nothing I can do to help but I still wanted to let her know that I was sorry. I got my layout inspiration from the Annual Catalog photos for this set (page 115) but decided to change up the colors a bit. I chose: Daffodil Delight, Flirty Flamingo and Pear Pizzazz:

After I created this card I liked the layout so much that I decided to make a second card based on the one above. I added more stamped images using the same colors and then chose my Perennial Birthday set for the phrase. So my 'Sorry' card became a 'Happy Birthday' card:

On this second card I used only two tiny Share What You Love Artisan Pearls, while on the first card I used 5. And on the second card I didn't use ribbon, because I felt it would compete with the phrase and spacing. 

So the next time you craft and create a card you like, try my idea! One successful layout can yield a second (or third or fourth!) card idea with just a few small twists. Another idea: use the same layout but change out the colors for a completely different look. 

Here's the great news about these two sets: neither are retiring from the current catalog so you have another full year of ideas coming from me!

How to alter products to create a unique card

In today's video tutorial (see below), I am going to show you how to alter some of the products in the Best Route product suite to make a unique masculine birthday card. (It would also make a great Father's Day card too!) 

First, here's the Best Route suite, featured on pages 52 and 53 of the 2018-19 Annual catalog. Note: all of these products are retiring on June 3rd! Hint: click on the photo featuring the products to link over to my online store. 

 

I was inspired for my card by one of the card in the catalog, but decided to alter the design to better suit my taste. What makes my card so easy to create is that you won't be using any stamps or ink. Just a couple of products from the suite that you will alter and instead of stamping on the card base I chose to emboss the card base using the Maps, Etc dynamic embossing folder. 

Best Route birthday card

Stamp set: none

Ink: none

Paper and cutting dimensions:
          Blueberry Bushel: 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" (21 cm x 15 cm)
          Memories & More card: cut off 3/4" from each side to create two matching strips

Other: Best Route Memories & More card pack #147036 (choose two cards from this pack), SNAIL adhesive, Best Route Enamel Shapes (146900), Big Shot, Magnetic Platform, Layering Circles framelits (141705), Maps, Etc dynamic embossing folder (146822)

As promised in my video, here's how I designed the inside of my card: I used a sticker from the Memories & More card pack and two strips of the Best Route washi tape to add some interest and coordination inside.

Measurements:  

• Fresh Fig: 4-1/4” x 11” 
• Old Olive: 4” x 5-1/4”
• Whisper White: 5” x 3-34” and 4” x 5-1/4” for inside of card
• Natures Twine (Fresh Fig): 5” and 8” for bow

Here's one way to design the inside of your card:

 

Instructions:

1. Stamp Small flower with Memento Ink in the lower right corner of large Whisper White cardstock and color in with Rich Razzleberry Combo Stampin’ Blends Markers and Old Olive Combo Stampin’ Blends Markers.
2. Fold cardstock in half and attach larger Whisper White cardstock to the inside of the card.
3. Stamp large flower and sentiment with Memento Ink on smaller of the Whisper White piece.
4. Use Rich Razzleberry Stampin’ Blends Markers to color in the flowers and Old Olive Stampin’ Blends markers to color in stems and leaves.
5. Unravel the 5” piece of Natures Twine and wrap the twine around the stamped piece securing it behind with Snail Adhesive.
6. Attach stamped cardstock to the Old Olive cardstock and attach Old olive cardstock to the front of the card base with Snail Adhesive.
7. Unravel the 8” piece of Natures Twine and tie it in a bow and attach to the card with a Mini Glue Dot.

How to make a beautiful graduation card

It's that time of year again - when we celebrate the graduation of our friends and relatives. I remember this date so well - in fact here is a photo of my son's university graduation day - can you spot the proud mama?

I was so happy for my son and all of his accomplishments! His road had not been easy but he persevered and got a psychology degree.

Yes, the images are feminine in nature so the Beautiful You card I have to share with you today takes one of these images and, using a cute twist, turns it into a graduation card with 3D effects:

 

Here's how to make this beautiful card; it's so easy!

Supplies: 

• Stamp set: Beautiful You (Clear-Mount Stamp Set – 143637,  Wood - 143004)
• Card stock: Whisper White– 100730, Basic Black - 121045
• Stampin’ Pad: Tuxedo Black Memento Ink Pad - 132708
• Mics: Basic Black Stampin' Write Marker – 100082, Pearl Basic Jewels – 144219, Whisper White Solid Baker's Twine – 124262, Mini Glue Dots – 103683, Stampin' Dimensionals – 104430, Basic Black Dark Stampin' Blends - 147941

Measurements: 

• Whisper White 8½" x 5½" score at 4¼" card base, 4¾" x 3½", ¾" x 1½"
• Basic Black 5¼ x 4", 5/8" x 5/8"

Instruction: 

1. Stamp the girl and greeting using memento black ink onto the 4¾ x 3½ whisper white cardstock. 
2. Color the girl using basic black marker 
3. Adhere to the basic black then to the card base. 
4. Using about 5” of the whisper white backer twine tie a small loop at one end, cut the bottom loop and fray the fibbers. Trim to 1” about ½ at the top from where you tie also ½ at the bottom. 
5. Adhere the tassel to the center of the 5/8 square basic black using a glue dot. 
6. Adhere on top of the girl head using dimensional. 
7. Using the dark black stampin’ blend color a pearl and adhere at the center of the hat on top of the backer twine. 
8. Roll the ¾ x 1½ piece of whisper white card stock tie with backer twine and adhere with glue dots. 

Do you know how to feature designer series paper?

This week I have a really fun card map for you to try and my card below features the new Mosaic Mood paper! 

 

For the background image I chose the new Verdant Garden stamp set - I have used this set three times in the past week after thinking that I would hardly use it at all! Just goes to show that you shouldn't judge a stamp set until you try it. 

I used the swirling leaves image and Versamark ink to create the swirls on the card front to match the map. 

Here's what makes my card different. Instead of featuring an image for the front of my card, on one of the squares, I featured a Mosaic Mood pattern!

I carefully cut a section of the paper that had the hummingbird on it and made that my top layer. The other layer is from the same pack. I layered each onto a piece of Soft Suede card stock that was only 1/8" larger all around. The banner? Yes, it is from Mosaic Mood as well! 

The phrase comes from another new set: Good Morning Magnolia. I will show you this new set in a future blog article. The final touch was to add some Share What You Love Artisan Pearls (retiring June 3).

Learn how to make a masculine collage card

In today's video, I am going to show you how to create a collage card using the Sailing Home cling stamp set. 

The Sailing Home bundle is part of the Come Sail Away product suite with colors and patterns that are perfect for masculine cards: Balmy Blue, Basic Black, Mossy Meadow, Night of Navy, Soft Suede and Whisper White. The suite also includes a Memories & More card pack, Baker's Twine, Trinkets (on video), and an embossing folder! 

I used this bundle to make this Sailing Home collage card. What's a collage? It is a crafting method that uses several backing pieces that are adhered to a backing. So for a card, it would be several pieces that are all attached (separately) to the card base.

A baby card to make you wildly happy

When I saw this week's challenge map I knew right away what special event I wanted to create a card for: a baby!

After I stamped and colored the elephants image I die-cut it out, along with the Petal Pink layer, using my Layering Squares framelits dies. I stamped and punched the phrase - easy peasy!

And I made this Wildly Happy baby card:

A fun way to frame a super cute baby image

What do a frog, a giraffe, a koala bear, a bird, a kangaroo and a rhino all have in common? The answer's obvious: they're all in the Animal Outing stamp set! And today I have a cute baby card idea that you can create that will frame one if the images in this set - literally.

When I think of baby cards, there are two ways to go: 1. soft muted colors like the Subtles collection (pinks, blues, greens, purples, yellows) or 2. Brights, which have deeper tones: blues, yellows, greens and oranges. It depends on my mood when crafting or if I know the preference of the mom to be and I want to match that.

Here's how to make this card:

Supplies:

• Stamps:  Animal Outing  (146597, wood)  (146600, clear)
• Cardstock:  Pineapple Punch (146971), Grapefruit Grove (146972), Whisper White (100730), Gingham Gala 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper (148554)
• Ink: Memento Stamp Pad (132708)
• Miscellaneous: Big Shot Die-Cutting Machine (143263), Multipurpose Liquid Glue (110755), Stitched Rectangle Framelit Dies (150624), Crumb Cake Blends Combo Pack (144601), Granny Apple Green Blends Combo Pack (147274), Light Daffodil Delight Blend (144586), Light Old Olive Blend (144574)

Measurements:

• Pineapple Punch card base: 4 1/4" x 11", scored at 5 1/2" 
• Grapefruit Grove: 4 1/4" x 5 1/2"
• Whisper White:  4 1/4" x 5 1/2"

Instructions:

1. Score and fold Pineapple Punch card base.
2. Using the second largest rectangle and the Big Shot cut out the Whisper White layer.  Stamp using the Memento stamp pad and color using the Blends. 
3. Using the second largest and the fourth largest rectangle and the Big Shot cut the frame out of the Grapefruit Grove cardstock.  
4. Using Multipurpose Liquid Glue adhere the frame over the Whisper White 'picture' you have created.
5. Adhere the framed 'picture' to the base card.
6. Stamp 'Welcome Little One' on a 1/2" strip of the matching Gingham Gala DSP.  Cut to length desired and cut a small triangle out of the right end to create a banner.  Adhere with Multipurpose Glue.
