How to make a beautiful piece of cake birthday card

In this video I am going to introduce two brand new Occasions Catalog products and show you how to use them to make a super cute birthday card. You don't need a lot of supplies to make this card and once you see how I created it (in the video below) you can copy my layout idea to make cards for many other occasions!

How to make 5 unique cards with 1 beautiful pack of paper

I know that your time is precious so today's post is going to feature how to take one pack of Sweet Soiree designer paper to create several unique card ideas. 

First let's start with the paper:

Sweet Soiree paper #145564: silver foil adds a textured look to these hand-painted designs. Silver foil accents on one side, colorful printed images on the other. Gorgeous! 

I know what you are thinking: wait a minute here - this paper is retired! Well yes, but.... no. It is now featured in my online store Clearance Rack and at half price too! So I thought you would like to see some card ideas for this paper, using some current and upcoming products!

First, let's start with my Pretty Kitty (#141864) card:

 

Design features:

• the bottom half of the card features the Sweet Soiree paper
• I colored the kitten stamp with Stampin' Blends to match the paper color

Design features:

I added another strip of the Sweet Soiree paper on the inside layer to pull the whole card together.

Instructions:

1. Run the layer of black through the Big Shot with the Swirls & Curls folder, wrap ribbon around it and tie a knot on the front.  Add this to the card base.
2. Ink birthday image in black and stamp on a scrap of white, repeat with Lovely Lipstick. 
3. Crop the white with the Darling Label Punch, snip out the word birthday from the Lovely Lipstick and add it over the image stamped in black.
4. Crop a label from Lemon Lime Twist, snip it in half and add it to the back of the stamped image so a bit of it shows at the top and bottom.  Add this to a 2” circle of Lovely Lipstick.  
5. Add main mage to the card with dimiensionals.
6. Finish with a few Glitter Enamel Dots.

How to make a beautiful, feminine birthday card

In today's video tutorial I am going to show you how to create a beautiful, feminine birthday card that is quick and easy to create thanks to my Big Shot and Happy Birthday thinlits. 

This card doesn't even require stamps and inks to create - although I did use the Perennial Birthday stamp set to add a phrase inside my card (see photo below).

What you need to know about retiring products

On January 2, 2019 many products in the Holiday Catalog will be retiring forever and I have some advice for you about this list. First, click on the list to see what is going to retire (will open in a new window and can be downloaded) and then keep reading for my top tips for what products are NOT going to retire!

Tip: take a highlighter and go through your Holiday Catalog to highlight everything that is retiring - this gives you a big picture and helps you make decisions about orders. 

Here's what you need to know about retiring products. As you look at this list, think about next year. Are there retiring products that caught your eye when you first saw the catalog but you didn't get them yet? Now is definitely the time because they will be gone for good on January 2nd. 

Here's a given:

• all designer papers will be retiring
• most Halloween sets and other products are retiring

Next think about gifts for next year - birthdays, Christmas (including stocking stuffers), or just because items? This is the perfect time to pick them up and save yourself money. And wouldn't it be nice to know you are ahead of the game for the coming year.

Now let's think about what is NOT retiring - yay! These products will appear in the 2019-20 Annual Catalog and I think they are worth some attention:

How to create a colorful vintage Christmas card

What is your stamping style, sleek and modern, cute and colorful, or soft and vintage? If you chose vintage, you will want to try this last-minute Christmas card idea! 

I remember when cross-stitching was all the rage and I made several 'pictures' to hang on my walls back in those days. I loved the quiet as I crafted and to see my picture coming to life as I wove the colored yarn in those tiny cross patterns. I was a school teacher at that time and I even remember my principal telling me that he loved to cross-stitch too. He found it so relaxing as did I.

Instructions:

1. Emboss the larger piece of Shaded Spruce CS, then glue it onto the front of the card base.
2. Stamp the main body of the ornament in Cherry Cobbler ink, then the fill in area in Cherry Cobbler ink stamped off once., onto the smaller piece of Whisper White CS
3. Stamp the side and top of the ornament as well as the hook in Crushed Curry ink.
4. Stamp the sentiment in Shaded Spruce ink.
5. Stamp the small star in Crushed Curry ink onto the flap of the envelope.
6. Glue the stamped layer onto the Shaded Spruce layer.
7. Glue the Shaded Spruce layer onto the Crushed Curry layer.
8. Glue the Crushed Curry layer onto the Cherry Cobbler layer.
9. Glue the Cherry Cobbler layer onto the embossed Shaded Spruce layer.
10. Lining up the stamps is easy when you use the Stamparatus. I kept the stamps on the plates so I could make multiples of this card.

• The smaller layers were coordinated by color: Very Vanilla and Cherry Cobbler
• Next the stamp set: I chose Cookie Cutter Christmas and matching punch for a playful look
• I colored the Santa using my Cherry Cobbler Dark Stampin' Blends
• I added the phrase before adhering the Santa
• I added three flowers from the Detailed Deer thinlits 
• Three small gold metallic pearls to complete my card
