This week the Paper Craft Crew has a fun tic-tac-toe card map challenge for us to try! I decided on the middle row: oval - elements of springtime - clean & simple.

This decision was easy for me because right away I knew what I wanted to create, using the new Springtime Foils specialty designer paper and Blossoming Basket stamp set! Plus I have a thing for clean & simple cards.

Springtime Foils card

You might be wondering how I got the Navy color on the Springtime Foils paper - I used a sponge brayer and my Night of Navy ink - simply ink up the brayer and roll back and forth over the paper until you get a clean layer of ink on the paper. Then take a paper towel and rub off any excess ink. Let dry for a few minutes (not long at all!) and your layer is complete. 

Then I simply finished off with a strip of Night of Navy corduroy ribbon and the phrase from the Blossoming Basket stamp set. Clean & simple!

How to make Springtime Foils paper amazing

Did you see my Facebook Live video this past weekend? If you did, I shared this card idea as one of four amazing projects you can create using the new Springtime Foils Specialty designer series paper.

Measurements:  

• Whisper White: 8 1/2” x 5 1/2”; 2 1/2” square
• Pool Party: 4” x 5 1/4”; 1” x 2”

Instructions:

1. Fold Whisper White card stock in half to create card base. 
2. Adhere Pool Party layer using SNAIL adhesive.
3. Color Springtime Foils layer using Pool Party Stampin’ Blend. Adhere to card front using SNAIL adhesive. Add Basic Gray strip.
4. Stamp ‘celebrate’ using Basic Gray ink onto Whisper White Square. Diecut using Layering Circle framelit. 
5. Diecut ‘you’ using Pool Party ink. Adhere under ‘celebrate’ circle layer
6. Add circle phrase to card front using SNAIL adhesive. 
7. Tie Basic Gray bow and attach to card front using Mini Glue Dot.

How to create an amazing basketweave background

Exciting news! The Blossoming Basket stamp set and Basketweave embossing folder will be available in Stampin' Up!s annual catalog. I am delighted to hear this news because that Basketweave folder creates amazing background layers for your cards! The texture is deep and very eye-catching, adding an elegant touch the simplest card layouts. 

Which is why I chose to create a second card and video using this fun bundle! This time I chose a feminine color palette, using Old Olive, Pink Pirouette and Crumb Cake. When I decided to use Crumb Cake for my basketweave layer I decided that my stamped image would use Very Vanilla - to keep the visual palette soft.

Instructions:

1. Adhere the designer paper to the 4 1/8” x 5 3/8” Whisper White cardstock. Adhere these layers to the card base.
2. Die cut the 2^nd largest square from the Stitched Shapes Framelits using the 3” x 3” piece of Whisper White cardstock. Adhere the square to the Glimmer Paper using Dimensionals.
3. Stamp the unicorn image using Memento ink on Whisper White scrap cardstock. Color in the unicorn’s body using the Pumpkin Pie Stampin’ Blends Combo. Color in the unicorn’s mane and tail using the Bermuda Bay and Lemon Lime Twist markers as shown. Die cut the image using the coordinating framelit. Adhere the unicorn to upper portion of the stitched square using Dimensionals.
4. Stamp the banner image using Bermuda Bay ink on Whisper White scrap cardstock. Curve the photopolymer greeting “Oh Happy Day” on your clear block. Stamp the greeting inside the banner using Pumpkin Pie ink. Punch the banner image using the Duet Banner Punch. Adhere the punched banner to the lower portion of the stitched square using Dimensionals.

Learn how to use a big sentiment on a card

This week's Paper Craft Crew card map features a big sentiment on a card. I am sure you have sets that have big sentiments so this week dust them off and give them a try. 

Tip: When using big sentiments, let the phrase be the main focal point and keep everything else quite muted.

I looked through myself stamp sets and ended up choosing the Thankful Thoughts set. And as the card map has a bird on it I thought immediately of my Best Birds stamp set and coordinating Birds & Blooms thinlits. 

I didn't want to just stamp the bird on Very Vanilla or Whisper White cardstock so I tried something quite different. I looked through my Wood Textures designer paper stack and chose a left over piece. And I stamped the bird right onto the designer paper and then die-cut it out. The pattern in the paper give a bit of extra visual texture to the bird! 

The rest was easy. I stamped the branch and flowers, colored them with my Stampin' Blends and die-cut them out as well. then it was time to assemble all the parts.

What is your least favorite card to make?

One of my least favorite cards I have to make each year is a sympathy card. We all know what that means and how a good friend might be affected by this loss. 

So when that time comes, I carefully go through my stamp set collection and other products to make a card filled with warm hugs and kind thoughts. The Rose Wonder stamp set is the set you need for life's major events—birthdays, weddings, sympathy. And for the everyday—thanks, friendship, encouragement.

The Rose Wonder card below is stunning and very easy to create because the embellishment comes from the Sweet Soiree Embellishment Kit and the background layer was created using the Garden Trellis embossing folder. A full list of supplies and measurements are under the card - you can change the phrase to make it a feminine birthday card, a wedding card, a thank you card and more.

Instructions:

• Emboss the larger Whisper White piece using the Garden Trellis Textured Embossing Folder.
• Adhere this to the Smoky Slate piece with Snail Adhesive and then adhere this to the Thick Whisper White Card base.
• From smaller Whisper White piece cut the oval using the Stitched Shapes Framelits and stamp the sentiment and "frame" in Smoky Slate Ink and cut this out using the Rose Garden Thinlits.
• Adhere the oval to the card using Stampin' Dimensionals.
• Adhere the framed sentiment using Stampin' Dimensionals
• Adhere the flowers from the Sweet Soiree Embellishment Kit using Mini Glue Dots.

This card map challenge makes me think of spring

This week's Paper Craft Crew card map challenge is a fun one, it makes me think (and long for) Spring!

And although there is a butterfly image on the map I decided right away not to use a butterfly. I decided that I would use a bee from the Dragonfly Dreams stamp set. 

And bees and flowers go together so I searched though my stamp sets and die-cuts for a floral image. My first attempt used the Pansy Punch and the Flower Shop stamp set but once I stamped and punched I realized the flower was too small for the size of the bee. 

So back to the drawing board - saving the punched Pansy for future card of course! 

Then I spied my Daisy Delight stamp set and thought I would give it a try next. Much better - I decided one Daisy was not enough so I stamped and punched two daisies for a layered look. The size of the daisy fit better with the size of the bee so the elements were decided upon. 

Next the card base. I chose one of the patterned cards from the Tutti-Frutti cards and envelopes pack to match the Daffodil Delight ink I used for my daisies. If you haven't seen the inside of the envelopes you are really missing out! (so cool)

At this point things came together really well and my card map challenge was complete. I debated on the ink color of the phrase. Do you think it is ok that the it doesn't match the envelope liner exactly?

Measurements:

• Bermuda Bay: 5-1/2” x 8-1/2”, scored and folded at 4-1/4”;
• Whisper White: 5-1/4” x 4”, 3”x3” and scrap for the smaller sentiment circle
• Pool Party:  5-1/2” x 1-1/4” 

Instructions:

1. Using the shoe image and Bermuda Bay ink, stamp the shoes in a random pattern on the front card panel.  Stamp an additional pair of shoes in the bottom right corner of the Whisper White cardstock.  Clean the stamp.
2. Stamp the shoe image on the 3”x3” piece of Whisper White cardstock using Memento Ink.
3. Colour the soles of the shoes using the Light Smoky Slate Stampin’ Blend marker.
4. Colour both of the shoes (except for the laces) with the Dark Pool Party Stampin’ Blend marker.  Using the Light Bermuda Bay Stampin’ Blend marker, add a line of colour around the tip of the left shoe, and the sides of the shoe tongues.  Blend out the lines using the Light Pool Party Stampin’ Blend marker.
5. Colour the shoe laces using the Lemon Lime Twist Stampin’ Write Marker.
6. Die cut the shoe image using the large circle from the Stitched Shapes Framelits.
7. Stamp the dot image from the set in a random pattern all over the piece of Pool Party cardstock, using Pool Party ink.  
8. Using Memento ink, stamp the sentiment on a piece of scrap Whisper White cardstock.  Punch with the 1-1/2” Circle Punch.  You will cut off part of the word ‘awesome’.  Clean the stamp and stamp the sentiment again on scrap paper using Bermuda Bay ink.  Cut out the word ‘awesome’ using your Paper Snips, and glue it to your punched sentiment.
9. Cut a 6” piece of Lemon Lime Twist ribbon.  Glue this to the back of the piece of Pool Party cardstock so that about 1/3” of the ribbon is hidden behind the cardstock.  Using your Fast Fuse, glue the entire layer to the card base.  Cut the excess ribbon off with your Paper Snips.
10. Adhere your main image to the card using Stampin’ Dimensionals, and the sentiment flat to the card using Fast Fuse.  Glue the large piece of Whisper White cardstock to the inside of your card.

Tag elements are an excellent focus on your cards

Are you starting to get a sense that I am back into tags elements on cards? I am getting that awareness, especially when thinking about today's card and yesterday's Confetti Celebration birthday card video!

Seriously, though tags do add an eye-catching element to cards and are so easy to create thanks to our punches! 

The Fruit Basket card below is bright and playful not only because of the colors but also because of the Tutti-Frutti card and designer paper - a perfect match. It takes only a few minutes to make and the corresponding envelope adds another fun and colorful touch:

Why not try making a bunch of these to tuck away for when you need them? Change the phrase to change the occasions - think of get well soon, hello, thinking of you, missing you, etc. This card is so cheerful it can be used beyond birthdays!

Hint: when stamping and punch elements, do so in odd numbers - as in 3s and 5s. It's more pleasing to the eye. 

Fruit Basket birthday card

Supplies: 

• Stamp Sets – Fruit Basket (145833) OR Fruit Basket Bundle (145977)
• Cardstock – Tutti-Frutti Cards & Envelopes (SAB) (147242); Lemon Lime Twist (144245); Whisper White (100730)
• Stamp Pads – Daffodil Delight (126944); Black Memento (132708)
• Misc. – Tutti-Frutti 6x6 Designer Series Paper (DSP) (145606); Lemon Lime Twist 3/8” Mini Striped Ribbon (145611); Whisper White Baker's Twine (124262); Itty Bitty Fruit Punch Pack  (145657); Scalloped Tag Topper Punch (133324); Mini Dimensionals (144108)

 

Measurements:  

• Whisper White: 2” x 3” scrap (pineapples)
• Lemon Lime Twist: scrap
• DSP:  3” x 4”
• Ribbon: 4”
• Baker's Twine: 4”

 

Instructions:

1. Attach DSP to center of folded Tutti-Frutti card base.
2. Create tag by punching white cardstock using Scalloped Tag Topper punch.
3. Stamp sentiment on lower portion of punched tag using black ink.
4. Stamp 3 pineapples on white scrap using Daffodil Delight ink; punch out.
5. Punch out 3 pineapples from scrap Lemon Lime Twist cardstock. Cut off top & glue to top of stamped pineapples from step 4. Attach pineapples to tag using mini dimensionals.
6. Slide striped ribbon thru top of tag. Tie white baker's twine around ribbon; tie knot; trim ends.
7. Attach tag to card front using dimensionals.
