What happens when Merry Mistletoe meets a card map

This week's Paper Craft Crew card map challenge was quite difficult for me. There were elements that on it that I didn't know what to do with:

So I left this image open on my desktop and cruised through my stamp set collection looking for inspiration. Nothing. After leaving it for a while I decided I wanted to use the reindeer in the Merry Mistletoe stamp and diecut it out in a large circle. 

But what to do with the smaller circles? I finally decided to use designer series paper and my card started to come together nicely! The background was tough to decide too until I remembered I had the Holly embossing folder! After that it was easy to add two fun embellishments and my card was done!

Supplies:

Measurements:  

• Thick Whisper White (base): 5 ½” X 8 ½”; score and fold in the middle
• Bermuda Bay: 5 ¼” X 4”
• Basic Black: 4 ¼” X 3 1/8”
• Whisper White: 4 1/8” X 3”

Instructions:

1. Emboss the piece of Bermuda Bay card stock using the Petal Burst Embossing Folder and the Big Shot Die Cutting Machine. Adhere to the front of the card.
2. Stamp the “thank you” sentiment in Memento ink onto the Whisper White piece towards the top.
3. Color in part of the image with the Bermuda Bay light marker and part of the image with the Bermuda Bay Dark image. Adhere this piece to the Basic Black card stock.
4. Wrap the ends of the Black Shimmer Ribbon to the back of the black card stock piece and adhere the ends down on the back with adhesive. Add Dimensionals and then adhere to the Bermuda Bay piece on the front of the card.
5. Tie a separate small piece of ribbon onto the ribbon on the card.
6. Using a black permanent marker, color three of the white accents. Allow to dry for a few seconds and then stick onto the front of the card.

How to make a vintage fall card

This week I have an unusual Paper Craft Crew challenge for you to take - it's a card map but not really a map challenge:

It's a Very Vintage challenge! This is fun because your choices are wide open as long as the result is a vintage card. When thinking of how to make a card vintage try one or more of these options:

• splatter stamps
• sponging around the edge of each layer (usually with a brown tone)
• texture stamps
• darker tones
• layering stamps

A cultural experience never to be forgotten

We are so lucky. We have so many opportunities at our fingertips, crafting being just one of them. 

For the past week I was in Cambodia on my first solo tour ever - and this was one experience I will never forget. I hired a young female guide to spend three day with me, to take me to her favorite temples and to share the history of Cambodia with me. How little I knew. And how fortunate I really feel. 

Here are a few photos of my temples experience:

While I was away I promised myself that I would take up memory keeping once more because I know that as I travel some more and other life events happen, memories fade away. I used to scrapbook all the time but at one point I lost interest. It's back!

As soon as I get my photos printed and have designed my page layouts I will share them in a future post. So come on back soon!

 

A fun twist results in a unique card

• Card Stock – Garden Green (102584); Cherry Cobbler (5 ¼” x 4”); Whisper White (100730); Be Merry Designer Series Paper (144111)
• Stamp Pads – Garden Green (126973); Cherry Cobbler (126966)
• Misc. – Stitched Shapes Framelits (145372); Holly Embossing Folder (141634); Layering Squares Framelits (141708); Banner Triple Punch (138292); Quilted Christmas ¼” ribbon (144620); Big Shot (143263); Fast Fuse Adhesives (129026)

Measurements:  

• Garden Green (8 ½” x 5 ½)(3” x 3”)
• Cherry Cobbler (5 ¼” x 4”)
• Whisper White: (3” x 3’)
• Be Merry DSP (2” x 5 ¼”)

Instructions:

1. Fold Garden Green in half to create card base.
2. Emboss the Cherry Cobbler layer with the Holly Embossing Folder and Big Shot. Adhere to the Garden Green card front.
3. Punch one end of the DSP strip with the Banner Triple Punch and adhere towards the left side of the Cherry Cobbler.
4. Die cut Whisper White with the largest square from the Stitched Shapes framelits using the Big Shot.
5. Ink up the larger sunflower in Garden Green and stamp off on scrap of paper.  Then stamp directly on the middle of the Whisper White square.  Stamp it towards the top edge to allow room for sentiment.
6. Ink up the smaller, more detailed flower in Garden Green and stamp full strength on top of the first flower.
7. Add “berries” in Cherry Cobbler ink.
8. Stamp Merry Christmas in Cherry Cobbler ink below the wreath.
9. Cut out the layering scallop piece from the Garden Green using the Layering Square Framelits and the big shot. Glue the stamped piece to the Garden Green mat.
10. Glue the piece to the front of the card as shown.
11. Tie a bow from the Quilted Christmas ¼” ribbon and glue dot to the top left corner of the stamped square.

A card map challenge that will make you smile

It's time for another Paper Craft Crew card map challenge! I love this map - it looks simple and fun. It also looks like spring but I wanted to make a Christmas card for my challenge.

6. Ink Happy Birthday image using Early Espresso ink and stamp onto scrap Wood Textures strip. Punch using Classic Label punch. 
7. Adhere phrase to card front to complete card.
