Try a stamping technique to add interest to your card

Today I have a fun card for you to make that has a fun technique to it:

 

Supplies: 

• Stamp Sets – Butterfly Basics (wm-#138813; cm-#138816; p-#137154); Papillon Potpourri (wm-#132058; cm-#123759)
• Cardstock – Delightful Dijon (#138338); Soft Suede (#115318); Very Vanilla (#101650); Kraft Corrugated (#138317)
• Stamp Pads – Delightful Dijon (#138327); Soft Suede (#126978); VersaMark (#102283)
• Misc. – Black Embossing Powder (#109133); Pearl Jewels (#119247); Bitty Butterfly Punch (#129406); Elegant Butterfly Punch (#127526); Scallop Oval Punch (#119856); XL Oval Punch (#119859); Embossing Buddy (#103083); Aqua Painter (#103954); Heat Tool (#129053); Dimensionals (#104430); Bleach 

Measurements:  

• Delightful Dijon – 5-1/2” x 8-1/2”; 2” x 2-3/4” (punched)
• Soft Suede – 4” x 5-1/4”
• Very Vanilla – 1/2” x 4”; 2” x 5” (punched pieces)
• Corrugated Kraft – 3/4” x 5”; scrap for punched butterfly

Instructions:

1. Fold Delightful Dijon cardstock in half.
2. Swipe Embossing Buddy over Soft Suede cardstock.
3. Using VersaMark ink, stamp floral images on Soft Suede cardstock. You'll need to mask lower portion of cardstock when you stamp the top flowers.
   Sprinkle black embossing powder over stamped images; shake off excess.
   Heat set using Heat Tool.
4. Fill Aqua Painter with bleach. Paint inside of embossed flowers.
   Note: Rinse out Aqua Painter several times to clean.
5. Using Soft Suede ink, stamp 'honeycomb' image on Soft Suede cardstock and vanilla strip.
6. Cut angle into vanilla and kraft corrugated papers. Attach to Soft Suede cardstock. Layer onto card front.
7. Using Delightful Dijon ink, stamp butterfly on scrap vanilla cardstock. Punch out using Elegant Butterfly punch.
8. Punch Bitty Butterfly from corrugated scrap. Layer onto stamped butterfly. Attach to card front using dimensionals. Place 2-3 pearls on top of butterfly.
9. Using Soft Suede ink, stamp sentiment on scrap vanilla cardstock. Punch out using Oval Scallop punch.
10. Punch scrap Delightful Dijon cardstock using XL Oval punch. Layer stamped sentiment onto oval punch. Attach to card front using dimensionals.

A sweet treat idea for a sweet friend

Today I have a sweet treat idea that uses only punches to create! A perfect treat idea for a perfect friend. 

Birthday Blossoms Treat Holder

Supplies: 

• Stamp Sets: Birthday Blossoms (139471)
• Paper: Watermelon Wonder cardstock (138334), Designer Series Paper 2015-2017 In Color Paper Stack (138432)
• Ink: Versamark (102283)
• Other:  Banner Triple Punch (138292), Pansy Punch (130698), Handheld Stapler (139083, White Perfect Accents (138416), Cucumber Crush 1” Dotted Lace (138423), Dimensionals (104430), Glue Dots (103683) 

Measurements:  

• Cucumber Crush Designer Series Paper: 1 ½” x 6”, score at 2 ½” and 3 ½”
• Watermelon Wonder scrap
• Dotted Lace Trim, Cucumber Crush, 4”

 Instructions:

1. Score the Cucumber Designer Series Paper at 2 ½” and 3 ½”.
2. Insert the end of the paper into the middle channel of the Banner Triple Punch.
3. Rotate the paper and punch the other end.
4. Fold on the score lines, join the two banner ends together and staple. 
5. Tie a knot in the lace trim and attach over the staple with a glue dot.
6. Stamp the flower image in Versamark on Watermelon Wonder cardstock.
7. Punch out flower image with the Pansy Punch.
8. Place a medium size, White Perfect Accents adhesive dot in the center of the flower.
9. Place a dimensional on the back of the flower and attach it to the treat holder.
10. Insert a chocolate nugget in the treat holder.
11. Surprise a friend by gifting them this little treat!

Yesterday I shared part one of the the answer to the most commonly asked question I get as a demonstrator: which adhesive do I use and for what?

Today I want to continue this article:

5. Glue Dots

Super sticky, instant dots of adhesive. No fumes, no mess, no drying time. Holds heavier embellishments. Hint: pick up your glue dots using a paper piercing tool or press the item against the glue dot while still on the sheet, then gently pull off the glue dot and put into place. The perfect adhesive for ribbon knots and bows. 

* 300 dots
* 3/16" diameter

6. Multipurpose Liquid Glue

Crafters' dream glue! Multipurpose Liquid Glue adheres glitter and other embellishments. Strong bond; dries clear. Great for applying paper to canvas; makes a mess and is super sticky. Keep away from small children (and me!). 

* 0.9 oz. 
* Fine tip for details and broad tip for large areas
* Acid free

7. Stampin' Dimensionals

Double-sided adhesive foam dots add depth and dimension. Instant bond. Instant love: my all time favorite adhesive. Is this where I confess that crafts are not worth crafting without my Stampin' Dimensionals? 

* 300 dots
* Each 1/16" in diameter
* Acid free

8. Stampin' Glue Sticks

Add glue anywhere with this diamond-shaped glue stick—great for reaching those tight corners! Dries quickly. Comes two to a pack. I have sold a bazillion of these to my crafty teacher friends. Why you ask? It's the corners.

9. And last but not least....introducing the new girl on the block: Tear & Tape Adhesive

Strong adhesive with tearable paper backing for easy sticking. Perfect for boxes and 3D items. Don't be sad that Sticky Strip is gone - rejoice and notice the 'easy sticking' part. No more taping yourself to a project or finding red sticky strip static-y bits in odd places for months to come. I love, love, love this new, easy-to-use adhesive!

Commonly asked question: Which adhesive should I use? (part one)

One of the most commonly asked questions that I get as a Stampin' Up! demonstrator is about adhesive. There are so many different kinds of adhesive, how do you know what to use and when?

Hopefully this blog post will provide you with some answers.

1. Snail Adhesive

SNAIL is double-sided, permanent adhesive. It applies a controlled amount of adhesive directly to your project, so your hands and work area never get sticky. I use this adhesive when adhering paper directly to paper.

2. 2-Way Glue Pen

Permanent or temporary adhesive: temporary if you let glue dry first, permanent if you immediately adhere. It's blue when wet, clear when dry. Perfect for small touches of glitter and all-purpose glueing. I love using my 2-Way glue pen on my Hello You thinlits. 

* Dries quickly
* 10 grams
* Chisel tip for detailed placement
* Washes off skin with soap and water
* Acid free

3. Crystal Effects

Create a glossy, lacquered look over images, paper, anything. Also works great as an adhesive to attach buttons and other heavier embellishments. Shh, don't tell but it works wonders as a household adhesive too! I have repaired a strip of kitchen countertop, a beaded lanyard and a small tear on a blouse seam, thanks to my Crystal Effects.

* Dries completely within an hour, depending on how thickly it is applied

4. Fast Fuse

This super-strength adhesive bonds instantly and neatly. Safe for memory preservation projects; great for 3D projects. Has a learning curve to understanding how to apply - hint: use a sharp check mark motion to end the bond. Practice makes perfect with Fast Fuse.

A sweet box for some sweet gifts

Creating cute boxes and bags doesn't have to mean complicated measurements and fussy cutting, thanks to Stampin' Up!s Big Shot! Here's a fun watermelon box you can create using the Cutie Pie thinlits:

Supplies:

• Paper: Watermelon Wonder (#138334), Cucumber Crush (#138337), Whisper White (#100730) and Basic Black (#121045) Card Stock
• Other: Cutie Pie Thinlits (#138273), Big Shot (#113439), Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack (#133787), Tear & Tape Adhesive (#138995), Multipurpose Liquid Glue (#110755) White Baker’s Twine (#124262) 

Measurements: 

• Watermelon Wonder: 8.5” x 5.5”, Cucumber Crush: 2~2.75” x 5.5”, Black, White and Cucumber scraps for tag and seeds, Baker’s Twine: 24”

Instructions: 

1. Cut two cutie pie frames from Watermelon Wonder (cut off a little of the back enclosure piece, if necessary to make it fit on the card stock) using the Big Shot. 
2. Cut two of the cutie pie frames on the ENCLOSURE END from the Cucumber Crush at the same time. 
3. Use scallop border to cut off pie-side ends parallel to the fold, about 1” away. Line up end of border with scored fold. You will run the scallop through twice as both sides are not in line. 
4. Die cut a cucumber and white flag tag from the Cutie Pie Framelits, then run cucumber tag through again (twice) to cut out “EAT” and “ME”. It may help to hold word die in place with a post-it note. Adhere cucumber tag to top of white tag. 
5. Adhere cucumber scalloped ends over the matching watermelon shaped end using Liquid Glue. 
6. Apply Tear & Tape adhesive to all the scored “flaps” and assemble box. You will need to cut off one of the watermelon flaps at the point so it doesn’t overlap on the top of box. 
7. Punch 4 hearts using heart punch from Itty Bitty Shapes Pack. Cut each in half for 16 “seeds”. Adhere to top and sides of box with multipurpose glue. (You can punch more if you want to cover all four sides with seeds). 
8. Wrap baker’s twine around watermelon and add tag.

Out with the old....but not quite yet

Most of my demonstrator friends try to sell their retired products on eBay or through private means after our catalog retires and although I encourage that practice every once in a while I have a stamp set that is worth keeping. 

This year I decided to hang on to Your Perfect Day because my colleagues at work often ask me to sell them a wedding card and I really like the images in this set and find it very easy to create with. Here's a card I made this week to sell at work. My friend who requested the card asked me to use blue, silver and white:

 

 

Inside the card I added the larger Congrats phrase, a strip of Night of Navy card stock and two Silver glimmer paper hearts. I know she will love this card!

So Kind Card

Stamps: Watercolor Wings

Paper: Soft Sky; Whisper White; Subtles paper stack

Ink: Blushing Bride, Calypso Coral, Crused Curry, Lost Lagoon, Pear Pizzazz, Sof Sky, Tangelo Twist

Accessories: Gold Metallic Thread, Subtles Designer buttons, Big Shot, Butterflies Thinlits dies

Instructions

1. Calypso Coral butterfly: Stamp the base image (small solid butterfly) in Blushing Bride ink on Whisper White Cardstock. Stamp the two overlay images and butterfly body in Calypso Coral ink over the base image.
2. Lost Lagoon butterfly: Stamp the base image (small solid butterfly) in Soft Sky ink on Whisper White Cardstock. Stamp one overlay image in Lost Lagoon ink, and stamp the other overlay image and butterfly body in Pear Pizzazz ink over the base image.
3. Tangerine Tango butterfly: Stamp the base image (small solid butterfly) in Crushed Curry ink on Whisper White Cardstock. Stamp the two overlay images and butterfly body in Tangelo Twist ink over the base image.
4. Cut out the butterflies using the Butterflies Thinlits Dies.
5. Cut a 3" x 1/4" strip of the Soft Sky striped pattern from the Designer Series Paper Stack and adhere to the bottom of the folded card.
6. Stamp "You are so kind" on the card in Lost Lagoon ink. Ink a 2" portion of the dotted strip stamp in Soft Sky ink and stamp three times on the card, spacing to allow room for the butterflies (begin about 1-1/2" from bottom of card).
7. Cut a 9" piece of Metallic Gold Thread, tousle, and then adhere over the middle dotted strip stamped image.
8. Adhere the butterflies over the dotted strip stamped images. Adhere a Soft Sky button to the Lost Lagoon butterfly.
9. Stamp antennas in Soft Sky ink above the butterflies.
