Drab to Fab Book Covers

Look at this great idea, created by a concept artist with Stampin' Up! - drab to fab book covers! The products used in this fun project idea are retired but maybe you still have them or consider adapting to match the paper you love!

Need a fresh take on décor? Look to our Designer Series Paper! Making storage spaces, such as bookcases, look new and creative can be a bit challenging. First, you need to spruce up a stuffy bookcase and then tackle the books that never coordinate. Instead of calling the publishing house about their cover designs, create your own! Stampin' Up!s concept artist used our inspiring Designer Series Paper to dress up her books, turning boring storage to chic décor in minutes!

How to: 

1. Paint an empty wood crate.
2. Choose a few books you’d like to re-cover and cut your favorite Designer Series Paper to the height of the book. You’ll usually need more than one sheet of paper.
3. Score the Designer Series Paper at 2" on either side for the flaps of the cover (so you don’t have to adhere the paper to the book). The basics of this project are really simple, giving you time for artistry.

Tips:

• You can find wood crates at craft or hardware stores—or get them for free at warehouses or online.
• Stack several crates on top of each other to build an asymmetrical bookcase; let’s face it, stackable storage is the best solution for dorm rooms and small rooms.
• Change the book covers with the season. Our Designer Series Paper is always bright and trendy so you never have to search for colors or ideas.
• Embellish your book covers with punches, stamps, and die cuts.

After you’ve revived your bookcase, consider what other corners and spaces in your home you can turn from drab to fab!

Open House project

Last night I had my New Catalog Open House and it was so much fun to see everyone again. I love spoiling my customers (near and far!) with Open House project make n takes and treats to snack on while they browse through the new catalog. 

This year I had the new Project Life products to show off as well as five new In Colors: Hello Honey, Blackberry Bliss, Lost Lagoon, Tangelo Twist and Mossy Meadow. Normally my open house guests make a bookmark using the new In Colors but this year I wanted to try something different. 

I decided to have my guests create a hand-stamped card using three In Colors, their coordinating ribbon, the And Many More stamp set (love this one!) and Itty Bitty Accents punch pack:

Ronald McDonald House

I am so excited that I get to go to Ronald McDonald House in Chapel Hill - it has been five months since I was last able to stamp with the families there and I have missed it!

Were you aware the Stampin' Up! is a global sponsor of Ronald McDonald House charities?

Stampin' Up! is partnering with Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC) to bring comfort and creativity to the lives of Ronald McDonald House guests. Each year, thousands of families stay at more than 160 independently operated Ronald McDonald Houses in North America. These Houses serve as temporary homes for the families of seriously ill children who are being treated in nearby hospitals. 

We are pleased and honored to be a GLOBAL sponsor of RMHC. Together, these two caring, helping organizations will create a powerful environment in which House guests will be able to enjoy creative expression in the comfort of their "home-away-from-home." 

As part of our commitment to support this organization, Stampin' Up! will:

3 Cheers to You!

It appears I am on a Happy Hour kick with this next card and it's 3 Cheers to You phrase, lol. This was a fun card to create using my Blackberry Bliss, Hello Honey and Tangelo Twist In Color markers!

 

I bet you might be wondering where that phrase die-cut layer came from - it's the Project Life Cards & Labels framelits dies! And to create the lined borders I used my Simply Scored tool - it is the one tool I have missed the most in the Netherlands and will be in my carry-on when I return there next month!

Happy Hour

Happy Hour is my favorite time of day (smiles) and it is also a great stamp set for celebrations!

I have a very close friend who has retired from teaching at 43 years - whew - she deserves a major celebration and a special card too. 

Now at the same time I saw a card map that I quite liked so decided to use the map to make Peg's celebration card. First, the map so you can try making a card using it at home too:

 

I must confess that I made three different cards using the above map and the first two I was not so happy with (you can check them out over on my Facebook Business page today)

And now my Happy Hour card, version #3:

  

I love the Blackberry Bliss In Color and can tell already that I will be using a lot of it in the coming year. The Perfect Polka Dots layer was embossing using my Big Shot and then cut into the pieces for the card front layer with added Blackberry strips in this final version. And I used my Basic Black and Blackberry Bliss markers for the glass image and then used my punches to create the focal point on this card.
