Ronald McDonald House – 4th of July card

Monday was my evening to volunteer at Ronald McDonald House in Chapel Hill. I experienced a full house this month and had a nice time stamping with several residents. I thought it would be fun to create a 4^th of July card but I don't have any specific stamp sets that address that holiday.

After thinking a bit I realized I do have the Large and Small Star punches so that prompted an idea to make this card:

  

I also used my Versamark ink pad, the small star from Nursery Necessities, my Word Window punch and Teeny Tiny Wishes. Some of the products I used to make this card retire today, so contact me at [email protected] to place your final 2009-2010 Idea Book and Catalog order.

Monday night confirmed something I had wondered about: kids LOVE punches. Especially star punches. Stars decorated not only the front of the card, but inside it too. One stamper decorated his envelope front and back with large and small stars. He was delighted when I showed him that he could punch a small star window inside his large star punched image!

A fun evening was had by all and I am sure that the friendly staff at the house is still discovering punched stars in and around our stamping table!

Here's a really cute card layout idea created by another Stampin' Up! Demonstrator! I took her layout and featured a retiring stamp set and card stock colors. There is a neat trick to create the colored strips. Check it out in the photos below:

An Evening at Yancy's: Gift Bag

Last week I had a really fun experience at Yancy's, a New Orleans, Cajun, Creole style restaurant with a blend of North Carolina, Southern hospitality cooking.

This experience, and story, began at the Southern Women's Show a few months back, when I met Dunella, owner of The Kila Company. Dunella teaches line dancing at Yancy's on Wednesday nights, Ladies Night, and she suggested I come and do some stamping with the ladies before her line dancing lessons begin.

I LOVE being a stamping business owner and am always ready for a new adventure so I agreed to give it a try. I always meet so many interesting and fun women through stamping and what a fun night we had.

Here's what the ladies made:

 

Everyone loved the gift bag and matching card they made and the line dancing fun after. So we are going to do it again and you are invited!

Time:       6:30 - 7:30 - Stamping Projects (cost: $5)
                7:30 - 9:30 - Line Dancing (cost: $5 for two hours)

Sundays with Sizzix: Butterfly Punch Card

Last Friday evening, my Card Club met and created three different cards featuring Stampin' Up! products - a great way to try before you buy. I wanted to show them how to use the Big Shot to add interest to plain punched images; for this card they used the Polka Dots textured impressions embossing folder.

Here's the card they created:

My Favorite Color Combination: Island Oasis

Yesterday was the Summer Solstice and the longest day of the year! Did you make good use of all those light hours? I sure did. I created this card using my favorite Summer colors: and a card map that appealed to me:

 
 

To create this card I didn't have to fret about the colors to use. I just turned to my new favorite designer series paper: Island Oasis. Then I easily matched the stamp set (Tropical Party), card stock and ink colors to make a card that completely coordinates. You may not know this but the two pieces of designer series paper are the same sheet - I just used both sides of two left over pieces from a previous project!

My Digital Studio: Father’s Day page

I hope you took lots of great Father's Day photos yesterday because I used My Digital Studio to create a page for you to use them on. Father's Day is always a nostalgic time for me as my father passed away a few years ago and I still miss him dearly. I have so many wonderful memories of him (he was the BEST) and wish I had as many photos as I have memories so I could make a huge memory book in his honor.

Here's the page I created:

  

 

I used Brocade Basics designer series paper, My Sweet Pea digital kit, Button Latte, and the Schoolbook Serif Alphabet stamp brush set.

Card Map: Greenhouse Gala

I LOVE the Greenhouse Gala designer series paper, from the colors used to the designs on each side of every sheet. And I am sure you will too when you see how vivid the patterns are in this new pack.

Today I decided to create a card using a card map I had seen on a demonstrator only email group. Here's the map:

  

And here's what I created using that map:

  

I used Chocolate Chip, Whisper White and Marina Mist card stock as layers but as you can see the Greenhouse Gala designer series paper speaks for itself. Layer the papers, add a punched phrase and you are good to go!

My Digital Studio: Summer Fun

Here's a fun scrapbook page with colors that would match any fun event, particularly ones that take place in the Summer. I used My Digital Studio and the Hoppy Memories digital kit:

  

I chose a larger than normal photo box. When you add the photo, choose one that can is black & white so that the colors on the layout won't compete with colors in the photo. In most photo editing programs you have the option of taking a color photo and changing it to black & white so try that on this particular layout.
