Arbor Day Card

Today is Arbor Day, a nationally-celebrated observance that encourages tree planting and care. Founded by J. Sterling Morton in 1872, it's celebrated on the last Friday in April. I encourage all of you to get out there and plant a tree today or to do something green to make a difference to our environment. (Yes I am a bit of a tree hugger!) Bouquet Bunch is a cute new stamp set in the Summer Mini catalog. (Check it out on page 21) Here's a card I created using Bouquet Bunch.

 

I bought a Clear Mount set so that I could easily line up the branch and flower images with the stem and trunk images. With a small strip of Chocolate Chip satin ribbon and a pack of Button Latte this card is done in a jiffy.

Blissful Bride

April is National Humor Month. It is also the month that marks the beginning of wedding season so for today's post I decided to combine the two and share some wedding humor with you:

A little boy was attending his first wedding. After the service, his cousin asked him, "How many women can a man marry?" "Sixteen," the boy responded. His cousin was amazed that he had an answer so quickly. "How do you know that?" "Easy," the little boy said. "All you have to do is add it up, like the Bishop said: 4 better, 4 worse, 4 richer, 4 poorer".

A couple was getting married, and it was only three days before the wedding. The bride calls her mother with some bad news. "Mom," she says, "I just found out that my fiancé's mother has bought the exact same dress as you to wear to the wedding." The bride's mother thinks for a minute. "Don't worry," she tells her daughter. "I'll just go and buy another dress to wear to the ceremony." "But mother," says the bride, "that dress cost a fortune. What will you do with it? It's such a waste not to use it." "Who said I won't use it?" her mother asked. "I'll just wear it to the rehearsal dinner."

The child was a typical four-year-old girl - cute, inquisitive, and bright as a new penny. When she expressed difficulty in grasping the concept of marriage, her father decided to pull out his wedding photo album, thinking visual images would help. One page after another, he pointed out the bride arriving at the church, the entrance, the wedding ceremony, the recessional, the reception, etc. "Now do you understand?" he asked. If you have received your Summer Mini Catalog I am sure you were as thrilled as I was to see the Blissful Bride stamp set (page 20) and Silver Foil Smooch Spritz (page 15). I also used the Pinking Hearts Border punch and Small heart punch which will retire this Friday (sniff, sniff).

Fancy Folds Class

Ronald McDonald House Charities

Last night was my turn to stamp over at the Ronald McDonald House in Chapel Hill, NC, and the kids and adults there absolutely LOVED the card they made. And who wouldn't love this cute Sesame Street character, after all?

   

Cookie Monster was created using Stampin' Up!s Big Shot and the Scallop Circle die (113468). I folded the Brilliant Blue card stock in half and laid it on the Scallop Circle die just under the top of the scallops so that when I ran it through the Big Shot it created a fold at the top instead of cutting right through. I also ran Basic Black and the Circles #2 die, and cut the largest black circle in half to create the mouth. The rest of the facial features were punched using a variety of circle punches which are so easy for little ones to use and, boy, do they LOVE to punch circles!

The children and adults created this card and stamped a Get Well Soon image inside but wouldn't Cookie Monster make a great birthday card or birthday party invite?

Introducing the Flower Layers with Leaf BIGZ die which I used to create this cute, yet simple, Mother's Day card. I created this card not only to show you this die but also to feature some products retiring at the end of April.

Happy Earth Day: Recycled Art

Today is a celebration near and dear to my heart. I love to travel and have been fortunate to see some of the natural wonders of the world which makes me want to preserve these sites for future generations. I know I can do my part by recycling and making wise package purchases, so today I want to share an easy recycling project with you.

Here's what I started with:

  

 

Of course I shared all the mints inside with my friends and co-workers so that I could use the tin for a project using Stampin' Up! products! The products I used are no longer available after April 30th so click here to place an order for those you can't do without.

And here's what I created using the Altoid™ tin:

  

 

Supplies:

Stamp set: none

Ink: none

Card stock: Sending Love designer series paper #117153 (retiring April 30^th!),Real Red, Pretty in Pink

Accessories: Paper Snips, Stampin' Dimensionals, 1" circle punch, Snail adhesive, Extra Large Fancy Flower punch #118073 (not available after April 30^th!)

I cut the Sending Love designer series paper the approximate size of the top of the Altoid™ tin and then rounded the corners using my paper snips. Then I punched the flower and center circle, adhere them together and, added it to the decorative strip layers using a Stampin' Dimensional. If desired you can add a strip of ¼" Grosgrain ribbon around the tin to cover the expiry date stamped on the back. Then add a sweet treat or other small gift inside. And that's it!

Administrative Professionals Day

Happy Administrative Professionals Day!

As an educator in an elementary school I can tell you that without the support of our secretaries and data clerk, things would pretty much grind to a halt.

Here's one of the "I REALLY appreciate you" gifts that I made to take to work today. It is a clear acrylic photo frame that has been transformed into a post-it note holder along with a matching pen.

Here's a wonderful birthday calendar idea for that forgetful family member! (Um, that might be me?) Create one of these for every month of the year or use this idea as a cover for a little reminder birthday book.

Instructions Happy Birthday Calendar 1. Trace scallop frame on Bashful Blue card stock, and cut out. Stitch inside edge of card stock frame using sewing machine and thread. Adhere card stock to chipboard frame. 2. Stamp off numbers in Close to Cocoa ink on four of nine pieces of Whisper White card stock (1-3/4" x 1-3/4"). Stamp additional number in Pumpkin Pie ink on fifth Whisper White square. 3. Stamp sentiment three times in Close to Cocoa ink on blank Whisper White square. 4. Adhere all nine squares to Certainly Celery card stock. 5. Adhere chipboard frame to Certainly Celery card stock. 6. Stamp off solid butterfly in Bashful Blue ink and stamp on Whisper White card stock. Stamp polka-dot butterfly in Bashful Blue ink over solid image. Cut out, and adhere to calendar using Stampin’ Dimensionals. 7. Stamp small polka-dot butterfly in Bashful Blue and Certainly Celery ink on Whisper White card stock. Cut out butterflies and adhere to calendar using Stampin’ Dimensionals. 8. Stamp label image in Pumpkin Pie ink on Pumpkin Pie card stock, and punch out using 1-3/4" Circle punch. Stamp sentiment in Bashful Blue ink on Whisper White card stock. Notch both ends, and adhere to label using two layers of Stampin’ Dimensionals. Adhere circle to calendar using Stampin’ Dimensionals. 9. Stamp small polka-dot butterfly in Pumpkin Pie ink on Whisper White card stock, cut out, and adhere to calendar using Stampin’ Dimensionals. Four Square: one card, two themes

For my team meeting yesterday, we swapped Masculine card ideas, either for Father's Day or not, whatever each demonstrator decided. As usual I was a bit behind the eight ball and so took a look at what I already had and could modify.

At my Stamp-a-Stack class last weekend this was one of the cards that the attendees made. It uses Stampin' Up!s Four Square stamp set, Very Vanilla Satin ribbon, and Bella Bleu designer series paper.

 

This card is quite pretty and feminine but I really liked it and thought that using the same colors (Kraft, Not Quite Navy and Very Vanilla) it could be changed up a bit to become a masculine card idea. The card above uses a tent fold layout so I decided to revert back to the more traditional fold. Here's my modification for a masculine card:

 

I still used the Scallop Square punch and Scallop Border punch but discarded the idea of using the Very Vanilla Satin ribbon and went instead with Not Quite Navy brads. In case you are wondering, I also used Stampin' Dimensionals to pop up each scallop square off the Not Quite Navy card stock layer.

So the next time you need a masculine card idea, look at the cards you have already made and see how you can change the idea for a different theme idea. And stay tuned for my Christmas Card Stamp-a-Stack which will take place in July and use brand new Idea Book and Catalog Christmas or Holiday stamp sets!
