Fancy Folds Class

I love to learn new things and being a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator provides me with so many new ideas that sometimes I don't know where to begin. Recently I sat down to view a DVD published by Stampin' Up! that showed several new "WOW" ideas that I can then turn around and teach to you. One of the demonstrations I saw showed new fold ideas for cards and I loved trying out what I learned.

And when I saw this cool new fold idea for a card, I decided straight away to offer a Fancy Folds class in April! This class is designed for seasoned stampers who want some new card fold ideas but will be simple enough for someone who is pretty new to stampin'!

Spring Break is finally here and many of my friends are off to the beach with their families. Of course they will be taking many photos of their week of relaxation so that prompted me to create this 12x12 Inspired by Nature scrapbook page, adapted from a 6x6 sample I recently saw:

Black Magic Technique: Of the Earth

Happy birthday Harry Houdini! You remember Harry Houdini the famous magician, right? My son did a book report on Harry many years ago and we both learned so many interesting facts and feat that we became fans of Houdini and other magicians. 

Did you know you can perform magic when making cards and scrapbook pages? To celebrate Houdini's birth, I will share my Black Magic Technique card, using the Stampin' Up! hostess Level One stamp set called Of the Earth. This same technique can be used to create scrapbook page elements or paper craft decorations.

 

Like Houdini, I will have to keep this technique a secret and leave you wondering how to re-create this card...........unless you join my Techniques Club! I am continuing with my new round of clubs and one of them, which meets once each month, is called the Techniques Ten. Each month we meet I will teach you a brand new technique and you will make two cards and a technique sample to take home. As part of the club you will also have a turn to be our lovely club hostess which will earn you hostess stamp sets and awards.

Ronald McDonald House

I spent last evening at Ronald McDonald House in Chapel Hill, stamping cards with the families staying there. I decided a Spring theme was in order and so turned to Pocket Silhouettes for the stamp set and a layout idea I got from one of my team members.

At our All About Stamping team meeting on Sunday we did a card swap and Lib, one of our team, had a beautiful card and envelope that she created to swap with us. I really loved her layout idea but had to simplify it for my Ronald McDonald House visit.

Here's the card the families were invited to make:

 

This card is very easy to make but quite pretty. Here's the supplies they used:

Card stock: Certainly Celery, Bashful Blue, Whisper White

Team Meeting: Of the Earth

I think I have already mentioned that I used Of the Earth last week for the first time and I must say that this stamp set has really caught my eye. The images are so pretty and simplistic in nature (no pun intended). So I decided that for my team meeting yesterday that everyone would use this stamp set to make the same card sample that I posted two days ago.

I love my team of demonstrators and really enjoy our monthly meetings. This month we did two things  differently - we did a team card swap of cards that were feminine or Mother's Day in nature and I demonstrated how I do an in home workshop. It was a fun meeting and everyone, even my long distance team member who called in on Skype had something to share with the group.

Here's a second card using Of the Earth. This one uses a technique called ghosting. You ink up the image and stamp it then stamp it again two more times without re-inking in-between. The second and third generation images create a "ghosting" of the first image.

Today's card was created using a Chat & Challenge card map and to celebrate the first day of Spring! It is a beautiful day here in Raleigh, NC and I got up early to make several Spring-themed cards.

Mosaic Technique: Sticky Pages

Tonight my Techniques Club is meeting and each month that they meet I teach them a brand new technique. These stampers have been stamping for a while and were ready to "bump it up a notch". So I created this club just for them and they certainly keep me on my toes planning and preparing their technique projects.

Tonight I am teaching the Mosaic technique. The projects they will make use the Stampin' Up! Sticky Pages (#114300). If you like our Sticky Strip, you'll love our Sticky Pages! Peel off the liner and sprinkle with Bead Duo or Stampin' Glitter to personalize your projects, gifts, or work space.

Crop Nights!

You bring photos, paper, accessories, or other projects and work the night away. I will provide liquid refreshments and am asking everyone to bring a snack to share with the group.

Time: 5 pm to 1 AM

Do you have to stay until 1 AM? Certainly not. But you can if you have a lot of crafting to do.

St. Patrick's Day: Irish Soda Bread Recipe

Happy St. Patrick's Day to all my Irish friends out there in the stamping world. Today is the final day to submit your Stampin' Up! Limerick to win a prize! Check out my blog post about this fun contest.

I thought I would share an Irish Soda Bread recipe from the Sarah's Secrets show on the Food Network. Have some fun today making the Soda Bread and then give it away as a gift to a neighbor or friend!

Prep Time: 20 min

Inactive Prep Time: 20 min

Cook Time: 1 hr 0 min
Level: Intermediate
Serves: 2 loaves

Ingredients

• 5 cups sifted all-purpose unbleached flour
• 3/4 cup sugar
• 2 teaspoons baking powder
• 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• 1/4 pound (1 stick) butter
• 2 1/2 cups mixed light and dark raisins, soaked in water for 15 to 20 minutes and drained
• 3 tablespoons caraway seeds
• 2 1/2 cups buttermilk
• 1 large egg, slightly beaten

Directions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Generously butter 2 (9 by 5-inch) bread pans.

Stir together the sifted flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and baking soda. Cut in the butter and mix very thoroughly with your hands until it gets grainy. Stir in raisins and caraway seeds.

Add the buttermilk and egg to the flour mixture. Stir until well moistened. Shape dough into 2 loaves and place in the pans.

Bake for 1 hour. Test with a toothpick for doneness. Cool in the pans for 3 to 5 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool.

And while these two loaves are baking, you have an hour to create two cute gift cards to go with your bread!
