Customer Queries

Welcome to a brand new blog category - my customer questions. I realized yesterday that many of you ask very similar questions and that perhaps I should post my answers for all of you to see (in case you were too shy to ask!).

Candace asks: I started scrapbooking with just photos and cardstock, but I'm easing into new types of embellishments for my pages. I love brads and I love ribbon. I usually run ribbon over the ends of the pages and secure it with a brad at each end and have at least one photo/embellishment over top of the middle.  Any other suggestions?  What adhesive works best for ribbon?  Also, I'd like to start adding buttons; any suggestions on the best ways to use & secure them?  Thanks!

Answer: I love ribbon on a scrapbook page too and often use it as an embellishment when all else fails. Ribbon can be attached in a variety of ways; use short pulls on your Snail adhesive, use Mini Glue Dots placed evenly along your ribbon strip, even Sticky Strip works well.

When adding buttons you can literally sew the button to the page using the needles found in the Crafter's Tool Kit along with natural hemp, or pull out those handy Mini Glue Dots and add one behind each button for a quick and easy fail-proof adhesive. If you want a bigger lift off the scrapbook page, try a Stampin' Dimensional.

Happy Mardi Gras!

The official colors of Mardi Gras are purple, yellow and green and to celebrate this fun event I created a card that makes the cold, windy evening a bit brighter. Eastern Blooms and Celebrate Everything along with Lovely Lilac, Summer Sun and Glorious Green combine for a fun, bright layout.

 

Too bad I couldn't add a string of beads or two, lol! (Hey, what about the bead duos on page 180 in the catalog!)

Scrapbook Maps

I love scrapbooking but sometimes find it challenging to create new and different designs each month for my scrapbook club. At times I turn to scrapbook maps to help me generate a new idea. A few months ago I saw the following scrapbook map and had saved it on my desk top for needed inspiration. Here's the map:

 

And here's what I created using this map idea. You will note that I didn't match the map entirely but rather used it as a jumping off point. I wanted to feature the Sale-a-Bration Polka Dot Punches stamp set and the ever-so-cute Good Morning Sunshine designer series paper at my scrapbook club meeting yesterday. If you look closely, you might be able to see that the 12x12 page layout is actually Whisper White and I added a Pacific Point 8 1/2 x 11 layer on top with a scallop edge Kiwi Kiss strip to the left. This page was easy to create - it is simply layers of card stock with some punched accessories. And instead of one 5x7 photo I used two 4x6 photos.

 

I plan on keeping this scrapbook map on my desktop for a future scrapbook page that is still creatively percolating for now - I'll point it out to you when I post it again some day. Sundays with Sizzix

And the Oscar goes to......

It's a pretty big night tonight in Hollywood. The red carpet is out, the stars are arriving and the fate of the nominees is tucked inside a mere envelope. So in honor of the Oscars, I have created this cute little box using the Scallop Envelope die and the Big Shot.

 

To decorate the box, I used Good Morning Sunshine designer series paper, the Petal Pizzaz stamp set and Chocolate Chip 1/4" grosgrain ribbon.

Chat & Challenge

This week I participated in another chat & challenge and kept it very simple when choosing my colors for the design. This map incorporates three different shapes and colors which made it more challenging than I initially thought. Here's the map:

 

I decided not to use patterned paper on my card creation which is quite different for me. I also wanted to dust off my Flight of the Butterfly stamp set as I thought it would be a good match for the layered, stamped image. Here's my card which uses the new Sale-a-Bration So Saffron ribbon, the Scallop circle punch, the 1 3/8", 1 1/4", and the 1" circle punches, and the Big Shot Sizzix Circles #2 die:

Tulipe Scrapbook Page

On Sunday I featured the Stampin' Up! Tulipe die to create a 5 1/4" x 5 1/4" square card. In the video tutorial I showed how to use the same die to create an element for a scrapbook page. Here's a photo of that scrapbook page.

Movers and Shapers

Back on February 9th I featured a video tutorial on the Movers and Shapers Big Shot die. Sundays with Sizzix

When Stampin' Up! partnered with Sizzix to bring out the Big Shot in the Spring-Summer Idea Book and Catalog, Shelli (the co-founder of Stampin' Up!) created some exclusive dies to match our stamp sets, and Decor Elements. Today's project features a card that fellow demonstrator shared with me and I loved it so much I just had to share the idea with you! It features one of the exclusive dies: Tulipe (#113457). I hope that you and are those special to you are having a marvelous day! I am spending a wonderful, relaxing day creating scrapbook pages for my upcoming scrapbook club meeting. Polka Dot Punches

Polka Dot Punches was the first Sale-a-Bration stamp set I received and I have used it to make so many samples already.

Last weekend I was invited by Kidz Stay and Play (in Knightdale) to come and do a coffee hour scrapbook class for moms. Kidz Stay and Play is a really neat setup. The kids come and play in the fun, supervised play area while the moms stay and scrapbook just outside the play area. I even had a mom attend who didn't bring a child but she lived in the area and wanted to learn how to scrapbook.
