Olympic Team Fun, part one

Sunday I had my July team meeting and I decided to infuse some Olympic team fun at our "event". After we shared Convention excitement, tooted our horns for accomplishments, and learnd a new technique,  I divided my team into two groups and announced my Olympic Card Making Challenge.

I gave each team the exact same supplies: card pieces, stamp sets, inks and accessories. Each team had to work together, relay style, to create a beautiful card with the following minimum requirements:

• 3 layers
• 1 punches image
• 1 accessory
• 1 stamped layer
• and the final product must be something I'd be proud to share with my blog followers!

I gave the teams one minute to plan their card and then gave them the signal to begin. At 30 second intervals the person working on the card had to stop, and pass the products to her team member who would continue working on the card. They kept switching from member to member until the cards were complete. We shared lots of laughs, groans, and oh no's! when the timer signaled it was time to move to the next person and when all was done I was very impressed with the winning card.

Convention 2012 Favors

How exciting to get Convention 2012 favors this year! This was totally unexpected but fun, fun, fun. 

I attended three different make-n-take sessions at Convention, each to focus on a different stamp set. And when I chose my seat at each session there was a favor bag waiting for me, each with a different product inside!

Look at how the favor bags were decorated:

What can you do with ribbon?

One of the classes I attended at Convention 2012 was called I am Savvy and we learned different ideas for using Stampin' Up! products. One of our demonstrators, Dawn, shared ideas for using ribbon and she showed us some different projects to try back home. 

Here's a card idea that caught my eye:

Ronald McDonald House

Last night was our time at Ronald McDonald House in Chapel Hill and we had a really busy and fun night with the families staying there. And we were ready! Five demonstrators each with a cute project for everyone to make and hopefully to also put a few smiles on faces and provide some relaxing distraction for a couple of hours.

Here's the card I created for the families - I actually got the layout idea from a Convention swap card!

Convention Card Swaps

Wow, I came home with over 500 new card and paper crafting photo ideas and even more ideas from my Convention Card Swaps and I am excited to share them with you too! I created three different cards for three different organized swaps at Convention. One swap had 44 participants in it so I created 44 copies of this card I designed:

and came home with 44 new ideas from other demonstrators using their favorite stamp sets and accessories!

I'm a Pattern Mixing Pro!

At least I am learning to be a pattern mixing pro! On Wednesday night I signed up for an optional Convention 2012 class called --- you got it!--- I'm a Pattern Mixing Pro! Carrie Cudney was our class instructor and as we came in the door she was standing right there holding our class project.

I nearly passed out with excitement as this is what I saw:

I have always wanted to explore Canvas Art and so was thrilled (and a little nervous) about this project. We used paint, punches, a paper cutter, buttons and linen thread, and designer series paper and created this beautiful piece of art in a couple of hours.

While my canvas was drying Carrie talked to us about patterns and reviewed three different types: subtle, muted and bold. She showed us several other project ideas on using designer series paper and shared her rules of thumb for using all three when paper crafting.

I am so excited to return home and hang up my art work in my Stampin' Spot! And I can't wait until you see it too. Thanks, Carrie, for a GREAT class!

 

Convention Display Boards

One of my favorite parts about Stampin' Up!s Annual Convention is the series of project display boards in the Gathering Place hall.  Stampin' Up!s concept artists work hard at the home office  to create the most breath-taking displays for us each year. We are welcome to take photos of these projects to recreate at home for you or to use as ideas at our classes and clubs.

Today I'd like to feature some of the projects shared with us, ones that caught my eye and made me take a step closer to get a second look.

 

 

When I first joined Stampin' Up! I wondered how on earth I wold be able to come up with creative ideas to share with anyone, let alone create for my own use, lol. It didn't take me a lot of time to learn that I didn't have to be creative - I just needed to know where to look to get some inspiration!

Moving Forward Thank You Card

Today I want to share my Moving Forward Thank You card that I made for my Stampin' Up! Business Development Advisor, Ashley! 

What is a Business Development Advisor, you ask? When a demonstrator reaches certain levels within the company, she not only earns awards but she also earns benefits from Stampin' Up! One of the benefits I earned when I promoted to Senior Manager last year was the support of a BDA. That's when I was introduced to Ashley. Ashley calls me twice a month to help me work on my business goals - she's not only a great support as a brainstormer and idea generator, but she is my biggest business cheerleader too! One of the best parts of having a BDA is that Ashley holds me accountable too - she reminds me of my bi-monthly goals and checks in with me to help me reflect on the progress I have made. 

I love having a BDA and knew that Ashley was going to be at Convention so I was going to get to meet her for the first time!

I made Ashley a thank you gift and wanted to make a card to go with my gift. On a recent call Ashley let slip that the Comfort Cafe designers series paper was her fave. So here's the card I made just for her:

Downline Convention Gifts

Today is travel day! We are off to Stampin' Up!s Convention in Salt Lake City and I am excited that several of my downline are attending too so have made each of them a special Downline Convention Gifts. 

In the past year or so, Stampin' Up! announced a new product line: Designer Fabric! The Annual Catalog boasts nine different extra-wide fat quarter projects and so I purchased some to create these cute Convention Gifts. Many years ago I used to sew a lot so I blew the dust off my sewing machine and began to research fat quarter projects to try.
