Card Map: Flight of the Butterfly

It has been a while since I have participated in a Chat & Challenge but I did so last night and had so much fun. There was 17 of us online, chatting about our local weather, updating on family and holiday plans and sharing our excitement about the upcoming Stampin' Up! Leadership conference in January.

This time our card map challenge was a bit different. It was an actual card that was presented. We had to take a look at that card and then come up with our own creation following the "map" of the original card.

Here's the "map":

 

This one kind of threw me for a bit because I kept focusing on the images on this card. But after chatting for a while and learning that our challenge was a spring theme for a card, I got my stamping mojo back and created this card:

 

I decided to have my card have a side opening to add a little pizzaz and to be a bit different. I used my Big Shot and new punches to add some texture and eye appeal and then the Butterfly punch on Basic Black and Pretty in Pink to create a butterfly with a shadow layer underneath. The top right corner seemed a bit naked so I added two punched hearts for a final touch.

So the next time you are struggling to create a hand-stamped card, take a look at the cards in the 2009-2010 Idea Book and Catalog or the mini catalog and look at them as a "map" idea. Then look at the stamping supplies you have and see what you can create. Or, do what I did with the card map on this blog post and share your new card with me!

Scalloped Heart of Hearts Valentine Card

Today I need to decide which card to take to swap at Stampin' Up!s Leadership conference in January and I need your help!

I will be winging my way to sunny, warm (I hope!) Phoenix for this three day conference. While there, I will take Leadership classes, have fun making projects using new stamp set and accessories, connect with demonstrator friends in Canada and other parts of the US, and see tons of displays featuring new ideas to bring back for you!

One fun part of any conference put on by Stampin' Up! is card swapping. Usually I take about 60 card fronts to swap with other demonstrators. I make 60 of the same card front and and when I meet up with other demonstrators, we swap cards - in the airport, on the plane, in the hotel, and, yes, at the conference. 

On Sunday I posted a Love You Much card which is one choice to make for my swap.

Here's another cute Valentine's card that I made when on my all expenses paid trip to PA a couple of weeks ago. A couple of products I used are your Sneak Peek into the brand new Occasions mini catalog.

I {Love} Love card

Did you know that you can create a card using images on a Jumbo Wheel? Yes, you can. In the brand new Occasions mini catalog (has yours arrived yet?) there are two fabulous new Jumbo Wheels and I used one of them, I {Love} Love, to create this 3x3 card:

 

I only inked up part of the wheel and carefully rolled the inked part on a scrap piece of Whisper White card stock. Then I added the Timeless Type alphabet capital "U" that I created using my Big Shot and added a brand new heart stamp from the I {Heart} Hearts stamp set, also in the Occasions mini catalog.

And that Perfect Polka Dots background? Again, from the Occasions mini - a new Textured Impressions embossing folder!

A Brand New Year

Now that Christmas is over (and was a wonderful day spent with friends and family!) my thoughts turn to New Year's Eve and the new year ahead. There are only a few days left to enjoy all the stamps and accessories in the Holiday mini catalog and today's post features A Brand New Year, found on page 31. I love that Stampin' Up! has come out with single stamps and this one caught my eye right away.

Here's the card I created using A Brand New Year:

 

I wish you could see my card up close. I used Crystal Effects on the champagne glass and this 3D effect adds some special shine and dimension to the stamped image. Don't recognize the polka dot background? I used a printed window sheet in Night and Day Specialty designer series paper, also in the Holiday mini on page 11. Can you tell how much I am going to miss all these products?

Merry Card

Christmas is tomorrow and maybe you need one last quick and easy card to enclose with a special gift for a special someone. Here's one designed by Stampin' Up! artists:

 

Merry Card (3x3")

Stamps: BERRY CHRISTMAS STAMP SET	Paper: Card Stock Old Olive 8 1/2X11 Card Stock Whisper White 8 1/2X11 Card Stock Real Red 8 1/2X11 Card Stock Textured Earth Elements 12 X 12
Ink Stampin Write Marker Real Red Stampin Write Marker Chocolate Chip Stampin Write Marker Old Olive CLASSIC STAMPIN PAD CRUSHED CURRY	Accessories: Punch 1 Inch Circle Library Clips - Mini Punch 1 3/4 Inch Circle

Instructions:

1. Color stem and leaves image with Old Olive and Chocolate Chip Stampin’ Write markers and stamp on Whisper White card stock (2-3/8" x 2-3/8"). Stamp berries image in Real Red ink. Adhere card stock to Real Red card using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

2. Punch hole in Chocolate Chip textured card stock (2-1/2" x 2-1/2") using 1-3/4" Circle punch, and attach to card using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

3. Stamp bird image in Crushed Curry ink on Whisper White card stock, cut out, and adhere to card using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

4. Color “Merry” from “Make merry” stamp using Old Olive Stampin’ Write marker, and stamp on Old Olive card stock. Punch out using 1" Circle punch. Attach clip to circle, and adhere to card using Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I have seen so many cute holiday banners that this year I was determined to create my own; so that's what I did this morning as I was up bright and early!

Having a Big Shot makes projects so quick and easy and this project was no exception - 15 minutes max:

I ordered the coasters in bulk from an online company but you can always drop into your local pub and ask for some for free. Cover both sides with designer series paper, and presto: a cost effective and very cute gift idea!
